FD vs GTR @ buttonwillow (video)
So I was at the track this past weekend and got to prove that a 19 year old rx-7 can still take on today $90k+ sports cars.
My car mods: Tein Flex 60-1 Single turbo (journal bearing) @ ~9psi Exhaust FMIC 850/1300cc injectors supra pump Power FC Stock brakes (ducted) EWP The best mod of all.. Driver mod. My car isn't pushing much power (280ish), as you can see the GTR pulls like crazy on the strait... but as having a fast 90k doesn't make you a fast driver. Well I'll let the video do the talking: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwEEX...ature=youtu.be After passing the GTR he tried to keep up with me and ends up going off.. http://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/...96534077_n.jpg I also passed up a newer Dodge VIPER.. but didn't have my camera recording during that sessions. :( All and all, a good day at the track. |
Skip to the pass at 4:32. Nice run...damn that car pulled heavy on the straights. Looks like he went in too hot on that left turn and went way wide. Looked like he was straight and could have gunned outta that turn but let you pass.
Best mod = driver is right! Thanks for sharing and great job! |
awesome..
this is when im wishin im in an area where there is no such thing as track season.. but year round.. |
very nice save around the 6 minute mark in the video!
|
Great driving and video.
|
great driving dude.
|
Awesome vid! Thanks for the entertainment!

Pretty good driving but a good driver in that GTR and there would be no way you could come close to those tail lights of his.
He should just sell that car. He even put the rear spoiler and everything lol. |
driver on the gtr sucked lol
|
Yeah, a GT-R should not lose to an FD with stock-level power. Period.
With all the computer systems on board, he must have been a REALLY crappy driver. (unless you were running slicks or something) |
great vid and nice driving.

slicks on a road course??? Oh yeah nice vid BTW |
Nice... At 2:50 passed the S2K then the chase was on! Looks like fun!
|
great driving. love the save at 6 mins
|
What tires were you using and do you know what tires the gtr used? Also what break pads do you use?
|
Man, there was alot of drunk drivers on that track! :D
Nice driving indeed! Your main advantage out there besides good apexing, is agressive break-ins whenever you could. Its not a good thing to do when you are driving with morons out there, as you have no way of predicting what they might do if you set em up for a break-pass on a turn, and you know this from the looks of it. What brakes you run? From the looks and sounds, abit higher entrance speed and abit earlier on the throttle is possible, but all in all, nice driving when in traffic. The GTR owner must sell his GTR emidiately, his driving skills are appaling, and the GTR makes him much better than he really is. Swap your "mechanically" RX7 drivers car with his for a few mins, and show him that skills are more than turning on a computer that drives your car. ps. love the "goodbye godzilla"-wave at 4:40 :D ps2, would have loved to see a rear facing camera to see how the GTR owner traced your driving and improved his poor skills, and offc. the offtrack excursion of his ;) ps3. LOVE the save. You didnt drop completely off power to get the sledgehammer counter, just eased off slightly and steered it out. |
That must have felt soo good passing that gtr.

So his tire compound was better than mine. I am running the Hawk DTC pads.

The problem with the GTR is its weight. The fastest time a GTR put in on that day was 2:01:003 a friend of mine with a bit higher HP (sub 400hp) put in 2:01:663. with his FC. This is a high speed technical track with makes a bit tough for a heavy car like the GTR to really put in fast times. Fastest time of the day was 1:53:319 to a Porsche 911 turbo.
Looks fun, I get invited to go to these events all the time, but I have yet to get my car running properly yet. Im not use to high speed courses like this, my main concern is braking. Your brakes are hella loud hehe. SQUEEEEEE! |
Yea, my brakes are loud.. but they sure do stop. =D
