fd vs. b18c1 civic

My friend just bought a civic with a fully build b18c1 so he says. He says it has around 200whp and weighs 1800-1900lbs which is extremely light. My fd has dp,exhaust,intake,pulleykit,8lb flywheel,a pfc and not boosting correctly. I think he may have me because his car weighs a thousand pounds less then my car, any ideas of what the outcome of this race will be?

get a midpipe, fix your boost issue, gut your interior...

efranklin 11-27-06 12:05 PM

So your saying i wont win?

Lee Lyons 11-27-06 12:14 PM

are you running stock twins?...definitly fix that boost issue...besides gutting the interior I've also seen people taking the rear hatch glass off to save weight...could take your hood off as well...I suppose...or you could spend the money and upgrade your turbo setup to like a t-78 single turbo

well, teh 7 can't lose...

however 200whp on a 1900lb car is a handful for a car making 250whp at 2800lbs.

rotorypolo 11-27-06 12:34 PM

My friend's B18 swap hatch dynos around 167 to the wheels stock and weights around 2200 lbs with full interios, and the car runs high 14s. I think with a nice set of cams and software, 200 whp is achievable. But I think with just basic bolt- ons, you should take him easy.

Heres a pic of the engine bay:

In a few months i will be adding alot of mods, but he wants to race now. Ive always had a faster car then him and now he got this car and i dont want to lose to it lol.. Im not removing anything from my car to make it lighter. I guess i should wait till i either rebuild the engine or put an ls1 in it :?

zlyricist 11-27-06 01:04 PM

you'll beat him :icon_tup:

gregariousgreg 11-27-06 01:51 PM

I'm pretty sure B18C1s only make 170hp crank stock. What does he mean by "fully built"? It's entirely possible he's making 200whp, but that would definitely take some work on an N/A B18C1.

That generation civic is usually ~2300lbs stock so he might be bsing on the weight too. Guess there's one way to find out... If you want an extra edge, race him from a dig. You probably already knew that though.

An ls1 would definitely get your FD moving. The rotary can make plenty of power with the right turbo setup, but the ls1 has one variable you can't easily change, displacement. Plus you can pick them up pretty cheap these days.

Lee Lyons 11-27-06 02:42 PM

no ls1...just get a huge 13b streetported monster...3mm ceramic apex seals...blah blah blah...get 500hp no problem on the right single turbo set-up and a good tuner...or go 20b and really give him a run for his money...but I'm guessing your working on a budget...lol

ExSr20kidF2 11-27-06 02:45 PM

i'd say do a 40 roll...i've raced a mildly build b18 hatch (no back seat) and they dont really pull that hard once u get up there..in my opinion tho. fix ur boost problem and give it a shot good luck!

rotorypolo 11-27-06 05:01 PM

based on the picture, I think his civic weights a bit more than what he claims, unless he has no interior. Now the EG hatch is a different story. Just race him, I dont think he is as fast as he claims.

GTRay 11-27-06 05:30 PM

fix the boost issues and you're all set. that car is not what he claims. i've built these cars before and when they get that light and make that kind of power you're looking at a pain in the ass to launch on street tires.

of course, i've built some sleepers too :-) b18c5 high compression motor with skunk2 head parts. 222 at the wheel with a complete exhaust for the sleeper sound all stuffed in a gutted '88 hatch that looke like we just bought it from grandma :-) threw some drag radials on it and took down some rather cockey domestics at some street races a few years back.

look at the pic..thats a 99-00 civic si coupe
i used to own one, those things are slow as hell and in no goddamn way its 1800-1900 lbs.
curb weight is 27xx lbs. and i dont think getting a cf hood and trunk with gutted interior will lose 800 lbs.
no worries, even with a b18 fully built no FI, theres no way he can be that fast

FearNoPiston 11-27-06 06:11 PM

either way if you win or lose at the end of the day he is driving a honda civic and your driving an rx-7 I will take a loss anyday if that is the case

ALNY93R1 11-27-06 06:36 PM

Fix your boost problem before you race him, don't race unless your boosting and you'll take him.

fd3s_jerry 11-27-06 06:58 PM

if you are even putting out 1/2 an extra hp, you WILL NOT LOSE to that car, unless he runs a decent sized shot of nitrous. you should probably play nice with him and shift about 6500 rpms. (since he's your friend and all). lookit, my friend has a b18c5 swapped hatch that weighs about 2000 lbs. gutted, and the only thing he has on me is WAAAAAYYYY shorter gears, so he keeps up for a little while. I have another friend who has a nitroused H22A jdm swapped Del Sol, 2500 Lbs. and the del sol is way faster than the hatch even without spraying. I think b18's are just over rated.
bottom line: go kick your friends ass, it's a Honda. I know you're not scared of the other NA hondas out there, are you??? :Wconfused

efranklin 11-27-06 07:23 PM

I wasn't scared until he told me his car weighs 1800lbs which apparently is not true. I need a few things fixed on my car first then i will race him hopefully get a video. Thx for all the advice, i will post up when i race him. -Eric

importedboi 11-27-06 07:37 PM

you'll beat him. It he says what is true about being fully built he is going to have traction problems lauching. If you can get a good launch on him you will probably win. Also saying that your car is up and running good. Are you sure its a b18c1? looks like a b16, maybe they swaped it, cause the intake manifold looks like a b16 or they could have changed. O well i believe the outcome is in your favor.

rx7legend 11-27-06 09:49 PM

well im not a honda guy but im damn sure that if he has 200whp hes going to be preety fast, a local guy here had a b18 non vtec running 14.0 with some extensive work , then he put a b16 head and make it vtec and he did 13.5, when he was non vtec lol he dynoed 170whp, when he did it vtec i don't know what whp he put but he inmediaely went down to the 13's so if he says he had 200whp he should be pretty quick. it's funny because everytime the kid beat the hell out o rsx's type s, integras gsr, s2000's they all say that it had NOS and it was vtec but when the kid open the hood and show them the b18 non vtec all of they're faces where priceless  , too bad he did it vtec i should've stay with non vtec. go race and see what happens

the car was an integra by the way

he should've had traction problems but if he has some nitto tires or something good like mickey thompson its going to jump like a damn frog lol.

theres a picture of the full car, i dont know what year or model it is anyone know? Doesn't look like it should weigh 2000lbs.

that for sure is a 99-00 civic si
and which reminds me..the intake manifold does look like a stock b16 manifold.
and all i can see is a damn cold air intake which doesnt even really free up any horsepower than make vtak sound more cool.
been there done that....i got money that all he did was change the stock b16 black valve cover to a red itr/ctr valve cover then claiming all this bs that the motor is fully built and it weights 1800-1900 pounds :rlaugh:

eightsixlife 11-28-06 02:03 AM

wow that thing ways no where near 1800 lbs, a crx or eg (92-95) or ef (88-91) would way that much... but not a 96-00 civic, and no way in hell unless that thing was gutted to shit it would way 1800 lbs... plus its a coupe, coupes are heavier than the hatch models of civics, if it was a hatchback, then it could be believable... but its a coupe... just race him man, that thing ways a little less than your car, at the most 300 lbs difference... plus you got more torque and more whp... you should be able to take him no problem...
