FD vs '05 R1

I'm (170lb) cruising in fifth on my way to AMA Super Bike race and my passenger (1st timer in my car - 200lb) spots a brand new R1 coming up behind me. Drop into 4th, he's on my ass...lane to my right clears, I see him make his move...I drop the hammer about 80mph, boost builds, I'm pulling, he drops a gear, I'm still pulling...I think he drops another gear...I think I saw his head light jump up [pass.side mirror], as if the front came off the ground...I'm still pulling, away by this time, I can see him in my rear view, I shut it down at about 130mph. He rides up and gives some respect...I think he shit himself if his front did come off the ground, haha! If he could ride or not, he lost. Passenger way impressed.

So, on the way home from the race, I'm thinking I have a street bike killer, so I try to play with a 1000 gixer and a hayabusa. Looked to be a couple from AL...the girl was on the bigger bike. neither wanted to test the water

What are your mods? That's a pretty neat no-bling engine bay you've got there.

you are looking at them. I have more fuel than I need, controlled by a Haltech E6X, WI, running 17psi. Oh, and lots of emissions equipment.

Is that an electric air pump, that's to the right of the intercooler?

dubulup 09-05-05 09:16 AM

I got it from a C4 vette. You'll love this...I used the stock IC bracket to mount it (modified of course), and I power it off of the fuel pump resistor so the pump won't burn up...coming up on 10K miles.

I have the Haltech powering the pump (via relay) from 700-3000rpms. I have a very small 4" dia ceramic cat welded into a midpipe with the air tube just before the element. It killed the smell pretty nicely. I ran without the pump for ~1k miles when I switched from the stocker main cat...so I know it makes a difference with ceramic elements.

...But I thought this was a discussion about my kill, LOL!! fawk it, I'll answer anything.

nice thinking man!!

but also nice kill, usually the non-blingin engine bays are the bays that mean business..i wish i went that route but i already have started on chrome so might as well finish it :( lol

ahhh yes, finally somebody else who has discovered the advantages of the electric smog pump. I had an electric smog pump from a 99 camaro on my 3rd gen used in conjunction with the stock cat and pfc, to pass washington state emissions. Nice setup all around!

not the stock cat...just a high flow welded in.

2FAST7S 09-06-05 02:33 PM

well that was very creative! If it wasnt for the fact that its more work i'd seriously consider it!
I dont think anyone here likes smelling like exhaust....lol

Hey what turbo is that?
congrats on the crotch rocket kill!!! had him downshifting!! classic!

dubulup 09-06-05 03:02 PM

it's a turbo I pieced together from some from a diesel tractor, LOL!!
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y28...p/5d559d9b.jpg
new 1.00 A/R divided turbine housing with P-trim wheel $300
new 0.70 A/R anti-surge compressor with a 60-1 wheel $350

Bryan @ BnR balanced and cleaned it up a bit, then I shaved and powdercoated the housing to match everything.

Not too bad...it could spool faster and have more flow up top, if it didn't have the anti-surge. hey this is the first car I've built. built the engine too...it could probably be stronger, if I used new engine parts, hell, I didn't know if the fawker would even crank...but look at me NOW!
