C6 vs T04S FD.
 

Yesterday on a 3 and 1/2 hour road trip (in my Black on Black non-airconditioned FD)

I stopped to get some gas. As I pulled out of the station onto the 4 lane divided road that led to the highway only one car was approching - a new silver corvette that looked like -

The driver, an early 60's looking guy, looked long and hard at my car as he passed. I dropped in behind him (30 day tag) and we caught the next light. Traffic was lined up in the right lane but the left lane was wide open. I followed him to the left lane. I had to take a right at the next light to catch the on ramp so I was hoping he would take off quickly.

Ambient temp - 102F (freaking hot!!)
My coolant temp - 98C (on evans race+)
My intake temp - 56C (yes the car felt like a dog...)
Boost - 14psi (my 2nd highest setting)

Light turns green and he drops the pedal. I do to, and I am on him like glue as we both switch lanes to go on highway. He goes into onramp a little hot (for his car) and turns in late - the ramp is a tight, smooth, high banked ramp and he settles his car down and accelerates through the turn. He still has a FD right on his tail (nowhere near its limit). When the ramp straightens out he punches it and changes lanes onto the highway. As he punches it I finally get to go WOT and I stay in the acceleration lane. Pulling through 3rd I pass him on the right with a citrus orange gatorade to my mouth - not a dropped spilled as I change lanes in front of him and accelerate away. Since I couldnt drink and drive and look over at him I can only picture his face....

Props to the guy who is driving his corvette at WOT (likely) at the age of 60+. At first I felt bad because he may have saved up for 30-40 years to get that car only to loose a short WOT pull to a car I am sure he has no idea what it was, but hopefully all of his life experience has prepared him for handling this defeat...

I look forward to meeting a c6 on a cool fall evening - my car feels 10 times better when my intake and coolant temps are reasonable. I wont be drinking a gatorade then - I want to see that look on that guys face...

Do everyone a favor and keep your hands on the wheel at least if you are going to race, thanks.

Ah..you must be one of those 2 fisted gatorade drinkers...

I on the other hand only use one to drink...and since it was a staight line one hand for driving did the job brilliantly.

Sorry to have posted such an offensive story here in kills section. Please dont tell my mom when you see her at the tupperware party Madmax.

Well once you shift to 3rd you have plenty of time - even in my car - to get a sip of gatorade. And I dont know why you guys are having a hard time with this part...didnt you read that I was in the middle of a road trip in a black on black non-airconditioned car on a 102F day? Now is it so hard to believe I may have been thirsty? And since I had shifted to 3rd I had a free hand anyway...



As far as dangerous goes I assure all of those out there who browse the kills forum just to jump on people that this was not a dangerous maneuver in the least. Maybe you could go over to the "I drive slow in the left lane" forum and do a little work there?

It would be much appreciated as those people cause alot of problems on the highway...

Thanks Amraam4! I dont post kills that often (or even get kills or deaths that often) but if its a good story I try to share.

I should think I would get positive feedback simply for using mostly complete sentences and visual aids..

If you had a STi I wouldn't really care, however, you do not. You have an RX7. They are becoming more rare by the day and I would rather not see another one on its roof.

I am not contesting the fact that you were thirsty, I couldn't care less. I do not drive slow by any means; however, I do keep both hands on the wheel.

On the other hand, if you are going to be an asshole, please continue driving with one hand, actually dont use any hands, I heard it improves handling. :bigthumb:

Well seeing how I have over 1000 hours of personal labor in my car I agree with you 100%. Im glad we finally can be on the same side of something in this thread.

I have liked it from day one...builds boost at 3200 (only 400 worse than twins I think).

Last dyno day I did a 16psi pull. It was running lean (12.0) at 5500 RPM's so I let off. It was one of those 3 pull dyno days and a million people were waiting in line so I couldn't make another pull after adding fuel. I was a 351 RWHP at 5500 RPM's so I am guessing I would of made at least 375.

This is an old XS kit (at least 3 yrs old). I havent heard alot of good things lately about their kit so make sure you read up on the forum before you buy something.

Shawnk , thanks for the entertaining kill story. Nice ride too ! Stories like that make me long for a FD. The old FC vert is just gonna have to do for now though! :)

nice kill, but I'm guessing he let off once on the highway....I don't see you "accelerating away" unless he did, when the RWHP is about the same and the weight difference doen't help much at all above 70 mph or so....it's all hp and aerodynamics at that point (plus the C6 is fairly light to begin with)

NICE, i hate corvette owners, they think they have such a special car... especially the new C6. it's just a chevy. I drove on and also an 04 GTO, i'd take the GTO anyday. I drive a Silverado that's nice but the attitude of the corvette drivers at autocrosses sucks 9 out of 10 times.

2 FC verts - '91 and an '88 turbo. (want to buy one, I only need one Vert.)

yah i read in a road and track mag. the other day that the C6 Zo6 ( dont know if the normal c6 is the same weight) that it weighs like 3180 lbs. or around there. thats pretty light for a muscle car. correct me if im wrong.

it is pretty light, but that is about 500 pounds heavier than most modded (catless) FDs. Mine weighed in at 2650 with a quarter tank of gas.

People wouldn't hate on corvette so much if it wasn't abused as THE mid-life crisis car to have. FYI, you do know that they're both GM, right? Same powerplant?

I totally agree, it's his car and he can drive it anyway he wants to. Everyone should understand, driving 100+mph and drinking something is just plain ass stupid. They're still other drivers out on the road and while drinking and not concentrating on the road can cause a huge stupid accident.
I street race all the time, but at least I try to be safe about it!!! Also, the story sounds kinda made up, I think! James

I wouldnt be so quick to hate on corvettes. the new c6 is an amazing car to say the least.
and to say you would take a 04 gto over an 05 c6 is just plain crazy
