burned a scoobie rs

It was late at night when there wasn't too many cars on the road and I was heading home from work. As I slowed down at a red light I saw a subaru impreza rs with apexi hks and spoon stickers on the side of his car. I look over and see he had his gf in the car beside him and some gauges on his a-pillar. Well the light turns green and he didn't punch it right away and neither did I so I thought this is gay and stomped the pedal and pulled away from him no prob. I slowed down just after I passed a semi truck that was in his lane. He sped up and I could see him race up to the truck and come into my lane behind me to pass him. I could see he was comming up fast and I was going 80kmph (50mph), so I dropped it into 3rd and waited for him to catch up and just as I lost him in my rear view mirror I stomped on it again. First I saw him pass my car then I started to reel him in and then pull away from him. I shut it down at 140 and I have no doubt in my mind he would have spanked me off the line.

^ I guess they were just stickers then. They're not that fast from what I found out; they're only putting out 165hp and tq. The only mod I knew he has was exaust. Unfortunatly it wasn't enough. This was my first kill with this new chip I bought, it maps out the fuel all the way up to 15psi.

I like the rs better because they were the last year for 2 doors. Unfortunately they were the slowest of the bunch.

if he had gauges in his a-pillar he was probably running a custom turbo. there were a number of home made turbo lits that came out for the scoobies between 98-00 that had those car punching out 280whp and 270tq. if he had a basic non intercooled, non tuned turbo system, he was probably putting down about 210 at the wheels, if he was running a top mount ic with a tune, probably about 260-270whp, if he was running a front mount with a tune, injectors, the works, he could have been putting down anywhere between 280-320whp. some of those cars are no joke though, i know of one that was running a custom turbo kit that was runnign in the 11s but looked completely stock. not bad for a car you can still drive daily in a snow storm.

my secondary car is a 2000 subaru running a custom turbo kit with straight pipes if you're wondering why I know so much about scoobies.

oh, and the major advantage that the 98-00 models had was the transmission, which was the greatest strength and greatest weakness. the gears were not strong and could break with over 300hp and bad shifting, but the top speed on those cars with a 5spd is like 120mph. it's a true close mission transmission. even when my scoobie was putting only 200 at the wheels it was still spanking wrxs cause of the gearing.

yeah i have one also. its a 98 with cams, port and polish and a custom turbo kit running 6 psi, but no engine or fuel management. I just snapped 2nd gear again. great gear ratios but not that strong. ran 12.222 @ 107.95 with a 100 shot. Ive made alot of muscle heads and older men feel very shitty being stomped by my 4 banger. oh and +1 for a great DD and snow plow!

With a Spoon sticker on a Subaru my guess would be that he was just a poser, and the gauges served no real purpose.
