BOSS muscle stang & NA ? Supra WOW

I bet when I get my car back that is actually fast I will slow down and stop posting like 2 kills a day. Anyway, a high 13s sec automatic is still fun enough to compensate for my insecurities especially when properly driven.
So I am on my way to school once again and making a right in front of stopped traffic onto a deserted two lane street on a red, seconds before their light turned green. I noticed a 60s or 70s yellow fastback BOSS mustang about 2 cars behind traffic after I made my turn and slowed down to look at it. I wasn't sure to expect a race because most of these are either restored by collectors, or redneck/rich guy owned and mega fast. Looking in the rearview I see him cutting traffic and with a loud roar accelerating to get to me. I downshift to 2nd and click HOLD, then raise the RPM to 4 grand, where boost is easily accessible and transition is not far away. This was a 351 or 429, definitely not a 302 or 289 (although I am not very familiar with these cars, I know they were much respected in their time) He is on the left of me with a truck in front of him so I tap the brake and he accelerates into my lane and doesn't stop. His initial burst of speed was impressive. I floor it after him at the top of second I am catching up. I though about going to the left lane and passing him but it was cool being behing him in my powerband while he was accelerating. After I shifted to 3rd he was still going, it sounded quite healthy. I let of momentarily to avoid a spike but floored it after he started pulling away. I flew real close to him bumper immediately. He looked back in disbelief and I got on and off the gas about 6 times real loud to make sure he knows what's going on. I felt so empowered. Then I stopped behind him on a red and gave him thumbs up several times but he did not respond. The light turned green and I made a nice power over U-turn and pulled into BK. Now I gotta go to class so I will explain what happened with the supra in the break.....

So I am almost at school and I saw a beautiful pearl white 98-ish supra 3 cars back. I changed lanes and slowed down and held second to alllow traffic in his lane to pass me. When it was just me and him he started coming up really fast and scared the crap outta me, I floored 2nd. Thank God for the second turbo because we were sitting door to door by the time it kicked in. Then I slowly pulled away inch by inch. There is something wrong though. When I turned after the race and he passed me I saw SE on the back where it should say Twin Turbo. Did I just barely beat an NA? It looked like a 98 and I know they upped NA hp to 232 from 220 and they run high 14s but I though it was a turbo because of his big tail and impressive speed. I hope SE stands for Special Edition Turbo or else that was one fast ass NA. (although he had momentum on me and I still pulled on him a little). Well that's it it I do any more irresponsible driving on the way home I'll be sure to report it tomorrow morning..... :)

first off it was probably a fake BOSS the orginal boss in 69 and 70 came with either a 302 or 429. THe Boss 429 looks like a plain jane stang except for a little sticker on the side saying Boss 429. The Boss 302 has strpise that run down the car and then come up the front fender and onto teh hood

didnt you just kill your motor?

btw you race too much son, calm it down a lil please.

Impreza2RX7 10-15-04 01:40 AM

What's done to your Supra?

Outkast 10-15-04 05:31 AM

I think the motor is fine I may have mistaken fuel cut for knock either that or my powerful invincible engine is immune to major knock and 20 fuel cuts a day. Yeah I know I race too much but I make FDs look good because I barely lose and then I make it a point to my humiliated opponent that I am automatic running 7psi and hitting fuel cut. I am sorry if I did not make it clear that I raced a 98 Supra that I think may have been NA but I drive a 93 FD.

you could also get a Boss 351, except they didn't sell as well. Good cars anyway. Seriously doubt you got anywhere near a Boss 429, they are worth so much few race em, so my guess is Boss 302 or copy. Gotta buddy with a shelby GT350 that goes fine N/A, but his factory paxton helps him alittle more. I love old muscle cars. My 390 stang will hang with the rx-8 even though it has a 3.0 rear end and a 3-speed tranny. Too bad they handle like shit. ha-

Good kills.

Maybe he swapped the engine??

Outkast 10-15-04 11:32 AM

Possibly a 302, it was clean and fast but not superclean or superfast so I doubt it was the Cobra Jet. Yes the handling looked very unstable at a mild curve we took over 60 mph.

Andrezneo 11-06-04 01:28 AM

IMO the 351 was the way to go, but it was only in 1971 and hence had the newer, and less popular body redesign. More potent than the 302 and not as rediculous as the 429, I know the 351's could be made into 13 second cars with slicks. My godfather has done so, and believe me, the car is a blast to drive. The Boss 302's however are sexy cars, I love the stripes on them.

two reasons they handle bad:

1. old muscle car(crap suspension)

2. they weigh a ton

Mark 4 supras do not have the word "twin turbo" on the back. They say Toyota on the left rear and Supra turbo on the right rear. Twin turbo mk4's don't have the letters SE anywhere. 1997 was the 15th anniversary, but it is displayed on the front fenders and not on the rear.

IndyKid 11-08-04 01:59 PM

How did you know it was a 98?

Camlinae 11-08-04 07:39 PM

Alot of them that are marked BOSS will actually be a mach one. Even then they are powerful cars expecially the models with the cobra jet engines and other then a paint job are very similar cars.

The Boss 351 was actually slightly faster than the Boss 429.

Sorry for the MEGA SUPER UBER late response but I read an articla about a 98 Special Ed 232 hp N/A Poopra, and the car reminded me of it because it was extremely clean and pearl white with a spoiler. Either I edged out a stock twin turbo (wow), or barely held off a non-turbo (wow). Indy, we know you are the shiet when it comes to Poopras. Teach your friend with the T88 Rex how to drive or come to Miami and run a 12.4 @ 10 psi FD but on 15 PSI..... LOL
