Beat Down '02 Camaro SS

I was going to work this morning at 6:15am and traveling on Overland in West LA. A Camaro SS spotted me and started revving his engine. I tried to ignore him as gas out here is $3.49 a gallon for the shitty 91 0ctane but he kept reving and trying to pace me.

We both ended up making a right turn onto Pico Blvd. and he tried to pull away from me but I just reeled him in. He changed lanes into the middle lane and I was in the far right lane. Ahead of me was an old beat up work truck traveling really slow.

He decides to take off in the middle lane and gets a car jump on me as I then proceeded to pull him in and pass him with just enough room to change into his lane in front of him before I rear ended the slow work truck. I saw his face in my rear view mirror as I changed lanes and he was not happy to say the least.

We ended up next to each other at Motor Ave. and Pico Blvd. and I guess he was a glutton for punishment because he started to rev his engine up again.

I timed the light and got a half car jump on him in first and proceeded to get a two car lead midway through 2nd before leaving him by more than 4 car lengths as I shifted into 3rd.

He lagged back and made a left hand turn onto Century Park East before I could slow down and let him get next to me so I could see the look on his face.

I love blowing V-8 engines away especially when they antagonize me into smoking them with ease. Just thought I'd post this kill as I was very pleased with the outcome.

How are the WS6's? Are they significantly faster than the SS?

Yeah, stock twins. I plan on getting the '99 Spec Twins soon as these already have some extra shaft play on the primary.

It Dyno'd at Tri-Point on their DynaPack at around 345HP. I could probably get more out of it but I decided to go more conservative. Even with the Cooling Mist Water Injection Kit istalled I don't want to push it too much. I am already on my 3rd rebuild.

That whole area sucks after 7am. Luckily for us it was still before 6:30am so there was not any traffic on the road other than a few cars and that work truck.

Mr rx-7 tt 06-14-06 08:28 PM

I remember some years back an off the lot Camaro SS pulled up to me at a light. The salesman was driving and the potential customer was in the passenger seat. They were snickering and pointing at my "stock looking RX-7"... The light changed and they took off for all the ss was worth and I proceeded to suck the paint off their car...No more smiling at the next light except mine.

Doubt he sold the car.

^ pretty funny

full bolt-on's and a 200 shot ;)

sleepydave 06-19-06 03:14 AM

yeah i have personally seen numerous ls1 cars hit 11.7's auto's and m6's, with solely a 125 shot nx wet on the cars. street tires as well. at sea level though.

Orr89rocz 06-19-06 10:41 PM

yep, they sure do love that nitrous

coolvette 06-20-06 12:21 PM

nitrous is a great power adder, but try to sell a vette that has been spraying ,on the corvetteforum and it is a tough sell.everyone is afraid of possible engine damage .

BlkS5TII 06-21-06 03:29 AM

I never really understood why nitrous is such a popular power addition with the V8 crowd. I think a boosted Vette would be 10x more fun and unique. Not having to refill anything other than the fuel tank is always a bonus.

tigermack 06-21-06 03:35 AM

hey, my name is mack too.

Orr89rocz 06-21-06 09:49 AM

nitrous is cheaper than a blower/turbo setup... and better for those not wantin to use that power all the time.. so it gets better fuel mileage.

but i'd opt for the blower myself.

nitrous LS1's with a great tune will live forever.. welll not forever but a very long time. they eat 100-150 shots all day long with full exhaust and good tune.

sleepydave 06-21-06 09:34 PM

bingo, why do spend so much money when you can run high 11's with 3-500 dollars invested for years

BlkS5TII 06-21-06 10:46 PM

I'm the kind of guy that likes to go WOT several times a day. If I had gotten a taste of a 150 shot I wouldn't enjoy running n/a all day. Turbo/supercharger might be more expensive initially, but I would go through an equivalent cost of nitrous in no time. I suppose it's fine for the guy that always knows when he's going to need/want the power to be there, but I have a heavy foot.

jic 06-24-06 10:55 PM

owned the ls1

Yeah, Mark and his mechanic Reggie did all the tuning and installed the Cooling Mist water injection set up. I think they did a good job and I am satisfied with the power and driveablitly..
