Any1 w/FD pulled a 04 mustang cobra?

If so list mods and hp figure...I like to know because we got a local loud mouth saying his stock 04 cobra is really fast...

Yellow R1 03-04-06 04:31 PM

Smoked one pretty bad when I had 342 rwhp. He was alone & I had my brother with me in my CYM when he kept egging us on. So, we went from about a 10 mph roll. Even though he had a 1 car jump & I had to get off the throttle in 2nd gear due to excessive wheel spin (had 245 SO2s at the time), I put 2 cars on him mid way through 3rd gear (which was equal to 3 cars midway through 3rd gear).

Stock they run high 12s - pretty darn fast. Chip/pulley/exhaust them & they get even quicker. They are just very heavy so it takes mongo power to move the heft (which is done with the inexpensive mods I listed above). I also pulled one really hard on the Hwy with our AMG, but thats another story.

i pulled one easily when i had 335rwhp. he had exhaust intake only.

GoodfellaFD3S 03-04-06 05:47 PM

Make sure he is stock. my bud Ihor on this board has a bolt on cobra and is making around 500 to the wheels.

SayNoToPistons 03-04-06 06:47 PM

hmmm they run high 12's... have fun!

This cobra has pulley...claiming 480 hp to wheels...

1RevvinFC3S 03-04-06 10:08 PM

With just a pulley? I don't see that happening.

So much for being stock. If he has intake, catback, x pipe, ecu and pulleys at 15ish psi, than he may be making that much.....

speedfreak95 03-05-06 01:08 PM

sounds like he bought the car and thought he bought the fastest thing on the street. Oh well. He will not make that much power with only a pulley that is a 90hp jump. You would have to have ecu intake pulley and full exhuast i know. My buddy had one and that thing would straight go in doughnuts at 60 mph. not to mention he had a two stage nitrous sset up

IndyKid 03-05-06 08:26 PM

Radkins car with 370rwhp against my other friends 03 with 460rwhp.I was the camera guy!!!!!!

Jasil 03-06-06 05:03 AM

Good luck. The the Steig. level IV ports are awesome and now stock 03/04 Cobras with that port and basic bolt ons have run 10's@127mph!!

Throw on a little 75 shot and you're running low 10's for under 6K invested.

Go do a search on Modularfords.com or Svtperformance.com look for Broke7 or Venomous both are running low 10's with ported stock blowers both with small shots of juice.

HERES AN CALCULATED FIGURE AS FAR AS HOW MUCH HP YOU WILL NEED

To beat a stock 03-04 supercharged cobra (390hp) an FD will need at least 325hp to walk him

if the cobra has around 450hp (considering hes modded) you will need 350hp. But youll win by one length (depending on how long your running him

if the cobra has around 550hp (Tons of mods) you'll need 430hp to keep up or be even with him, 450hp to walk him.

the good thing about the cobra is that it has a restriction. so if your doing a high speed race youll eventualy start walking him. With a single turbo youll murder him. but his supercharger will give him the advantage considering that it launches like a rocket from any position (stop & go or roll)

OFF TOPIC:
the main cars to be afraid of is the AMG mercedes & the Supras. those have high top end. the cars speed just keeps going & going & going .......

Wow, a lot of people here have no clue on what their talking about with 03/04's. 1st off the 03/04 don't run high 12's, or at least not when driven correctly and on a properly prepaired track. The fastest bone stock run with 03/04 Cobra has been a 12.4, driven by Evan Smith. The avarage is around 12.6-12.7's.
Secondly their not 390hp like mentioned above. I'm suprised I still see this on this site (see it here more than any other site). It's just plain common knowledge that the 03/04's were grossly underrated and they typically dyno around 365-375, some have even broke into the 380ish RWHP bone stock when running on the dyno in good air and after a cool down once broken in. Thats more like 430 plus hp at the crank.

Don't get all fired up about this stuff, but here ya go.

When I had my last FD I raced more Mustang GTs and Cobras than I can remember. I never lost, but most of the time I ran from a roll. The closest Mustang to mine was a guy claiming 403 rear wheel HP tested at SVC Motorsports on their Mustang Dyno. At the time I had a down pipe, cat back and modified stock air box which provided better forced intake without having leaks at the battery compartment and junction points to the air box from the nose of the car. We raced three or four times from assorted speeds other than a standing start. He had drag radials on the car.

Later after adding the Power FC 12 psi, fuel pump, and mid pipe it made stock mustangs look like a joke.

I know we have G-tech fans out there. Here are the G-techs from assorted people with good zero Gs base line starts. Sorry, I don't have a stock 03 or 04 Mustang Cobra run, but they are in the 13s for the 1/4 on street tires.

black - FD - Power FC 12 psi, stock modified air box, DP, MP, CB, fuel pump, light battery

red - 2003 Mustang Cobra - The 03 has a 2.9 pulley, flashed eec, 9"k&n cai, bassani x/or and catback exh. along with rear suspension mods, bushings and adj. shocks, and a firewall clutch adj. and shifter.

green - 1996 Mustang Cobra - mass air flow deal, X-pipe, intake, no cats, flow master

blue - 1999 Cobra - x-pipe, cutouts, pullies, CAI, K&N, tri-ax shifter

The FD is faster once rolling than all of them including the modified 2003 Cobra with a butt load of mods.

Didn't get fired up, but you realize that a Mustang Dyno gives about 15% less hp in their results. That would mean that your closest competition was running around 475+ on a Dynojet. I never said that these cars are unbeatable in any way shape or form but for some reason I see a lot of incorrect hp and 1/4 quotes concerning these cars on this site. Considering how much this board talks about them you would think this info would be accurate by now. I know the Cobras are heavy but having the advantage of 100+hp and just sick amounts of TQ make up for the weight REAL fast, also weight becomes much less of a factor in high end races. HP is HP is HP as is TQ. The car with the most hp and tq typically wins with equal drivers, even when your talking about 800lbs difference in weight the differences in HP that the Cobra makes will negate that quick. The power curve in a FI Cobra is also just fantastic. The peak TQ is like ohhh the instant you stomp on the throttle and it's pretty much a flat line all the way across. The FD's drag coefficient could make a difference here but if your running a pullied, Cobra with an exhaust and intake and tune expect a 450+RWHP car. Your going to need more than 350RWHP to walk him unless the drive is a total moron.

The G-tech thing looks cool and they have come a LONG way but you really can't realy on this those things, they also can't accuratly project top end runs unless you figure the gearing ratios in the rear end and in the tranny of the T56 6 speed in the Cobra and the 5 speed in the FD and the dc of both cars. Also you can't map it out accuratly without knowing the power curve of both cars when running a comparo like that.

I found my stock 2003 Mustang Cobra .gtp file. I knew I had that around here in my computer. The 2003 Cobra was a 1 inch rollout so it was at a slight time disadvantage to the default 12 inch rollout of the FD. Magazines often use the 12 inch rollout.

black - FD - Power FC 12 psi, stock modified air box, DP, MP, CB, fuel pump, light battery

green - 2003 Cobra Mustang, stock

BlkS5TII 03-08-06 05:41 PM

Looking at that graph the Mustang was shifting slower. What's up with that?

EDIT: It looks as if all the advantage that the FD had was in the shifts. They look nearly tied if you shorten the Mustangs shift times a little bit.

Been pretty busy,
I also had to dump the Cobra in a divorce.
I decided to go truck so I picked up a 05 Nissan Titan LE Crew Cab so I have spent a lot of time on the Titan boards. A Turbo kit will be released in the next few months for the truck that should net me over 400 RWHP. A few months after that a Stage II kit will be comming out that will give upwards of 500 RWHP on the Titan. I want to hunt down as many SRT-10's and Lightnings and suprise the crap out of them. I'm on the list to pick up the kit one it comes out. I LOVE that truck but am itching to get back in a fun car possible something I can trailer out to the track, will keep the Titan and use it as needed. Possible 07 or 08 Shelby GT 500 for me when the mark ups go down. Or maybe even a little SRT-4, maybe a Saturn Sky or Pontiac Solstice with a LS2 conversion kit.
no more wife=no dumb bitch telling me what I can and can't spend my hard earned money on.

Montego 03-09-06 02:15 PM

yeah just to chime in here 450 RWHP with a pulley is not stock lol...

My coworker (he has an 03 cobra) dynoed that (somewhere in the vicinity I forget exactly what number) and he has intake, exhaust, pulley (which yield higher boost) and even changed his gears for faster aceleration at lower speeds. It crazy cheap too. he only spent like 2k in mods.

Wanna run my cobra? Only stipulation is we both run pump gas:)

You can run a WAY better time that that with those mods and that dyno. Get some DR's so you plant that power and get a few suspension mods in the rear to help out and you have a 11.8-11.9 sec car in the 1/4.

IRPerformance 03-10-06 05:29 PM

It was on Mickey Thompsons but I had way too much tire pressure.
