Another Lexus ISF kill

Just read the other post and felt I should post my own. Don't think I've ever posted a kill thread before, but anyways...

Being the last weekend of summer and the fact that my coolant seals are starting to show signs of failing(pushing out the overflow), I wanted to get a few more pulls on this motor before it goes under the knife. I've been pretty down as I've only done 3 autox's this year so I went out on rte 37 in Toms River and cruised up and down about 2 times. It was fairly early and no one was out. I didn't want to push my luck with the law so I decided to head home. Just then a silver ISF pulls up on me with Florida tags. We drive for awhile and then find an open stretch. We do the the typical 3 beeps and I slightly brake boosted in 2nd and pulled him by about 2 car lengths up to around 100 or so. Those things pull instantly and shift very fast as we were neck and neck until I hit full boost on the secondary turbo. We take the U-turn to come back around the other side of the highway and chatted while waiting for the green light. Nice kid w/ a hot GF. We both exchanged nice comments about each other's car. Anyways he asked if we can do a 20mph pull and I said OK. I was thinking shit, he's gonna get me at that speed with that instant torque. I really don't know where my rpms were at, but I did a slight brake boost in 1st and we took off. It actually turned out to be the best pull as I instantly put a half car length on him before shifting into 2nd at 7500 rpm. By the time I let off at the top of third I had a good 3 car lengths on him. I'm guessing I hit around 110-120mph before letting off because of upcoming traffic. I waved goodbye and headed home as I knew my coolant buzzer would be coming on soon.(It did as soon as I got into my driveway and the overflow tank was pretty high compared to when I left.)

My engine mods are:
M2 intake
Unorthodox Racing full pulley kit
A/C deleted
M2 large IC
HKS SSQ BOV
HKS twin power amp
Pettit unlimited ECU
ACT street/strip clutch
4.3 ring and pinion
SR motorsports 9.5lb flywheel
DP w/JET HOT 2000 coating
Gotham Hi-flow cat
Trust 3" full ti catback
J&S knocksensor w/dual monitors
99' turbos(sequential)
XS engineering manual boost controller

I'm guessing with other mods and deletions, my car comes in at 2700lbs, maybe alittle less, though I weigh 220. I only looked briefly at my boost gauge and in third it was at 14psi and in 4th it spiked briefly to 17 and then held steady at 15psi. My J&S monitor lit up briefly on the first light and then went off. The Pettit unlimited chip runs pig rich as dyno AFRs have always been in the mid to low 10s at that boost level so I'm never worried. Air temp was about 70 with low humidity. My car is a 94R2 with 55K miles and it is still pretty strong despite the failing coolant seals. Pulls 16 in. of vacuumn at 800rpm idle. Had 2/3rds of a tank of gas.

FWIW, I dragged my car 6 years ago and it did a 12.4@114 before the hi-flow cat, Trust exhaust(had a Greddy SP), 99 twins, and 4.3 gears. It also dyno'd around that time at 330 or so at the wheels and was maybe 50-75 lbs heavier.

I know it's alot of info, but just trying to give an accurate comparison. The kid said his car was stock. What a rush!:)

Good kill. Those things must be really quick in stock form if he was able to keep up at all.

I saw an IS-F at englishtown a couple of months ago. I couldnt stop staring. My friend was like, ok ok lets go back to the stands and i just kept standing there smiling. Car is soo gorgeous.

But yeah nice kill. You say it was an early run??

Have you ever did like an early run on a saturday or sunday? Like 6am??

Its DEAD!!! perfect for those long pulls. Just put your radar on though lol

Yeah, it was maybe around 10pm or so. From memory, things usually heat up out there after midnight. I didnt want to chance it too much though. Never tried a 6am run out there. But there are plenty of nice roads south west of that area that are perfect for that where no local police are. There's only occasional troopers who work that area. There's a 4-5 mile straightaway down in Chatsworth off rte 72 that is perfect!

Yeah, that car is beautiful and sounds deep!

yeah I like that car... nice kill!

only thing about the ISF is the exhaust tips look :gayboy:

Damn, I'm re-reading my post and I musta been falling asleep when I was typing it last night. I let off at the top of 4th and not 3rd. And the car was white. But everything else is straight and true.

So what is your plan when the engine finally goes?

You should rebuild now, maybe you can reuse some engine parts.

DJF(NJ) 09-06-08 07:02 AM

Putting in a new shortblock very soon. I'm sure, aside from the seals, this motor is still good...but I always like to buy brand new and not take any chances. I don't like the idea of having things rebuilt as I was burned several times years ago, when I had my Z32TT. Plus I got a good deal on a brand new, straight from Japan, shortblock.

Enginedepot is in kearny, last time i was there, they had ALOT of 13B-REW's there. I think 4 of them, all around 40-50k miles.

I know its basically hit or miss when buying one of those, but they were selling them cheap.

Please do not be offended....NOT my intention for I am sure you have a great ride and alot to be proud of...
However...
I do not think that guy knew how to drive it or was too nervous to wreck a 60K car...or even better...that "sexy GF" may have been screaming at him the whole time.

Although the IS-F weighs 3780 lbs (1080 more than yours), it goes 0-60 in barely over 4 secs / does 1/4 in I believe 12.2 @ 109 MPH and has nearly 400 lb-ft torque and 416 HP.

I sponsered (actually my car club) an event where we had one delivered to Margate, FL where 8 of us paid to be allowed to test drive it....and the class alone took 1.5 hrs !! I am sure the dealership didnt offer him THAT benefit ! LOL My experience was that car moved faster than almost anything else I drove previously (I think the 840i was quicker). I also found that if you used straight automatic instead of the paddle shifter...reaction time was MUCH slower.

I would be interested in seeing this happen again in the future after he learned how to drive it and possibly grew some balls!!

Thanks for sharing the story! The ISF has to be one of the sexiest new cars out. I saw it an an auto show around here and just stood there staring forever..... I unfortuneately have not run across one driving around. I would really like just to see another one..

How do you NOT know how to drive an auto though?

With his specs and times vs the IS-F spec and times, his story just about equates what would be the outcome.

1000+lbs difference. Not to mention his FD traps higher. This is also a main factor.

Some people just like to argue.

I just dont understand some people.

this lexus is about 4000 pounds with driver and that big 417 horsepower turns to really be about 330 on a dyno. So I dont see this outcome being any different.
Personally I think you just like this car more than you can face reality.

-No disrespect

nice kill...

DJF(NJ) 09-12-08 12:21 PM

Not offended at all man. From what I was told, these cars do low 12's at 114. We raced 3 or 4 times and his girl was never complaining. And again, I don't see how you cannot drive an auto fast?

Now, as far as my car goes. Last time I dragged my car was 5 years ago. My best time was 12.4 and my best mph was 114. My best 0-60 results using a GTech meter was 4.2seconds. This was all before I did the 99 turbos(same boost), hi-flow cat, 4.3 gears, Trust Ti catback(vs. Greddy SP) and the car was mostly likely 70-80pounds heavier. The way the car feels vs. the way it was when I last dragged, I guestimate it would trap around 117.
