Almost BumbleBee Swatted Down
While driving north to Katy "Mexico" when a nice bright yellow Camaro RS/SS came up behind me and stayed there for a while. I quickly turned on my WI and bumped the boost to 16.5psi on my mild port GT35R FD, and down shifted to third gear.
When he accelerated and started to pass me, I floored it and left him behind like he did not expect. After we slowed down and he passed, I saw the RS/SS emblem on the side. His car specs has 426 SAE power but the weight is 3820. Those cars handle well but have 1000 lbs more weight than the FD. Only the ZL1 would be competitive. |
Wow I've always thought about racing an SS, but know it would beat me lol. Good kill!
|
They new camaros are some good looking cars and the ss comes with some good engine specs. Too bad they are pigs
and good kill! gt35r @ 16.5 psi, that guy never had a chance lol... |
I was at an A's game a couple weekends ago and Chevy had some sort of promotion where they took you out in their new cars... they took me out in the Camaro SS, and I was not impressed at all. So much body roll, a lot of torque but didn't feel a whole lot faster than my TII... not to mention it didn't even look good inside or out.
To make it worse though... as I was talking to the guy and he was racing around the track, I told him I had an Rx7... he replies with "you need this engine in your car". I lost all respect for Chevy after that... or at least for their driver. |
I slowly walked a zl1 a few weeks ago from a 50 roll . That was @ 19 psi 460ish. Guy was cool and couldnt believe it.

I have a 2010 Camaro SS but my turbo SA is faster than the camaro but the camaro rides really good.
|
well considering the turbo should be putting down about 450whp at that boost level and the FD has 1k lbs on it the camaro had no chance.
of course traction plays a big role though, without decent rubber the FD will easily spin up to 100mph with that power. sometimes weight does have its advantages. |

I have a new Camaro SS also. It carries groceries FAR better than the FD. Hands down, not even close.
|
They aren't very fast, I raced one a few months ago on the highway and pulled a steady car and a half on him from 70-130ish. I only have a few bolt ons >300whp.
|
how much less does an fd weigh than a t2?
|
T2 is 2600 to 3100
Fd is 2700 to 3000 |
^^what version of the fd is at 3000 lbs?
2860 is the accepted norm |

I love to see our 7's still hanging with these modern beasts that roll off the factory floor. Nice kill.
