91 N/A vs. S13

I was driving home a couple of nights ago around 3-4 am. There's a nice stretch of highway with a winding section that is the key point to the race. If you can exit at a faster speed than your opponent, that's the race right there. As I pull up to the stoplight before the highway begins, a white 240 pulls up next to me, also by himself. His window is already down, so I roll down the window and ask "Wanna go at it?" while revving. He acknowledges and rolls up his window, while I do the same. Listening to his revving car, I figure it's about the same as mine, intake/exhaust, no real power mods, no SR20DET, most likely still a KA.

As the light turns green, we both launch. He pulls ahead and I get behind him, while chasing. There's a good mile to mile and a half section of high-speed winding road before the critical area, and I stick to him the whole time, matching his entry and exit speeds. We're both running about 110-120 through this area and I see that he's about as good as I am. I start trying to pass him but he doesn't give me any room.

We approach the critical area, which are 6 sharp turns (3 sets of S turns) that have a warning 25 mph sign, but which can be taken at 100 mph. I shadow him through the first 3 turns, but I change my line and disrupt his rhythm a little on the 4th corner. I feint a move to the inside and line up to the outside of the 5th corner, gambling and cornering as aggressive as I can. I somehow end up side-by-side in the 6th turn which is the sharpest, and being that it's 4 in the morning and I'm already crazed enough as it is, I go into the corner flat at 85 mph. As I'm cornering, I see him brake behind me and I notice my car begin to understeer. Fortunately, just as I'm about to hit the wall, the road straightens out and my car barely makes it. I exit the section at 95 mph and continue to pull away from him. I give him an appreciative hazards, his lights disappearing from my rearview a few seconds later.

I think that was the fastest I've ever driven this highway.

wow, sounds like a pretty close call with the wall and whatnot.

Let's put it this way....I was praying right before the exit of that corner

Nice run, nice run. Where are you located in New York? You sound like an upstater, and that road sounds like north of the adirondacks?

there's 25mph s-turns on a highway?

Respect the NY Highways, they're badass! :titty:

^:werd: lame kill...............you got lucky, glad it worked out in the end......don't push your luck like that too much.

Nice kill, down here in PA there's plenty of "25" mph turns that you can FLY through, now not so much on highways, but I know a few that the 7 pulls 100 easy through. Hell I dropped some 25mph corners at 80 in my '94 Lincoln Mark 8 semi-boat. Only thing I'll say is... don't drop into a corner that's gonna be a close call at 85, unless you've done it at 80 a few times, sounds like you might've though. Once again, nice kill.

Yea, it's actually in NYC, Queens to be exact. This highway is famous for the bike races that happen every night. The road is rarely straight, tons of sweepers etc. If I had the whole lane to work with 90 is easy, but 100's pushing it. Since I only had one lane and didn't want to mess up the dude's 240, I think 85 was the fastest I could do it safely.
