1993 FD vs 2005 M3
So I met these guys at a local car meet, really cool guys, one of them had a Dinnan M3, one was stock(Dinan means he earned a certain amount of points of car upgrades from BMW to get the Dinan title)(if noone knew that)
I raced the STOCK 2005 M3, we were going down route 28 from rockville towards Olney, first was from a stoplight, I took off(the guy didnt launch well), I'm supposing he caught up to me because he has more insant torque than I do. By around 4k rpm or so in 2nd gear he was next to me, by around 7k in 2nd his face was at the end of my bumper(on the other side of the road). Then I hit 3rd gear and started catching him a bit(I guess FD's get more power in 3rd), by 4th gear I was maybe a car length ahead of him. I hit 5th gear up to 5k rpm and I was 3 car lengths ahead of him. We went again, he took me on launch, same thing happened again, I barely had him it was almost an even match(I only went to the mid of 4th gear, I'm supposing he did too). It was definitely close, really close. I really dont know who would win if we did it again, it was wayyy too close. In conclusion, these m3 guys were really cool, one was a real estate agent and one was a local cop(I seriously never knew cops could be SO FUCKING COOL out of uniform). They werent snobby at all, we exchanged compliments on each of our cars. I think that Dinan M3 would beat me tho, if the stock one was really close. But I just think of it this way, they paid a 60k sticker price on their car, whereas I bought my car for 14k, and I can take a stock one(barely). I cant imagine what my car could do if I put in new turbo's/modded it to all hell. 15k in upgrades and I'll still have spent half of what they have spent. Mind you I have spent quite a bit on my car in fixing it, but that was all from a bad mechanic(now I take it to PFsupercars, and they are awesome). My mods: HKS rs intake Downpipe HKS superdrager exhaust Hose Job Koyo radiator HKS twin power ignition rebuilt turbos(just stock) engine w/ 20kmiles Imo I didnt do too bad racing against a 60,000 dollar car ><. it was a competition package stock M3 also, I dunno if that matters |
your car is pretty much stock too. you have just mod-ernized your car. the way i see it if the mazda made a 2006 rx7 it would come with a 3 inch catless dp, a more effecient exhaust, better radiator, and better hoses. so i only count your intake and twin as a modification haha. well thats what i tell guys when i spank these newer stangs and TA's, and they say "yea well you've got mods on your car"

Competition package takes off some weight
It has better wheels, an alcantara covered steering wheel, stiffer suspension, an "M-mode" traction control system thats less intrusive, bigger brakes and some other things.. |
Doug
Get a Boostcontroller (turn it up) and Stand alone EMS and kiss the E46 M3 (dinan or not) goodbye. |
Dont let them scare you, as these other guys already said, youre essentially "stock". If you had more mods other than intake/exhaust you'd blow their doors off...so go get more mods and make sure you hurt them!!!!

I used to own an M3, and keep contact with many local m3 guys, and many of them are really cool enthusists. I raced a all bolt-on E46 M3 on the drag strip last summer, and back then, all I had was a street port motor, dp, intake, exhaust, and I would constantly beat him by about 1 CL when we hit the end zone. I would constantly trap around 110 @ 13.1 and he would be around 106 @ 13.3. His car was a beaut, and I was only putting down around 260 rwhp.
