Road racing in SCCA
 

any body out there doing road racing in a first gen using the tri link?

I have an 85 SE using a tri-link from Geforce Engineering in Hillclimbing.
I am still trying to get the car set up correctly, but it owrks quite well.
I think I set the car too stiff for the hills and am trying to remedy that this year.

Only the ones that are winning. Or they are running a copy.

Its really the only way to make the rear end work within the SCCA rules.

thanks for the input guys, is hillclimbing as scary as it sounds? I assume there is no guardrail.
nice political input, my wife and I vacation twice a year and I often wonder if they are going to refuse me for flying as I do a lot of time on left wing and conspiracy sites.

Tri-Link is definitely the way to go for rear suspension.

Also, get rid of the Watts link and run the Panhard bar.

How dangerous it is depends on how fast you try and go. I ran it the first year they did it. I was 3rd fastest overall, but I almost totalled my car out. By the grace of God I didn't crash. I have been road racing for many, many years, and never been scared that bad. After that last run, I put my car straight into the trailer. This mountain steadily EATS one car per year. Unlke a road racing track, there is zero runoff area; on the uphill side of the pavement is a rock lined ditch and a dirt wall laced with large rocks. On the down hill side of the pavement, if you run off you will be stopped when you wrap your car around a tree. If you hold back and don't run as fast as possible, then it is not as dangerous. Other hill climbs may not be as dangerous as the Crow is.

The possible SCCA classes you could run in would be CSP, ITA, EP, or GT-2 or GT-3; all depending on how much you want to Mod your car. I would recommend that you buld to CSP or ITA rules to start with. Hill climbing is the most dangerous level of the 4 levels of SCCA Time Trial competition. To run a hillclimb, you must have at least an SCCA Time Trials License , which you will earn by either running a few flat road course Time Trial events, or by graduating from a Time Trial school. Your car must have at least an SCCA approved roll bar, and you must have full driver safety gear.
