anyone here rally their FC? wanna share your experience im interested in some snow rally events during the off season for drifting :nod:

I think you will be the first to join this endevour so in rally I've never rallied in person before but seems like the car will bounce off the revs easier then even drifting so just have some safety measures for that . some suspension travel and muddy tires .. I dont know how stiff your suspension is but might need to soften it up a bit to grip on the dirt ..

THIS IS ALL CONJECTURE!! I've never done any of this .. but I think it would be cool keep us updated!

Pm fidelity101, or just wait for him to chime in. He rally crosses pretty regularly and is taking his 7 to sno*drift in a few weeks (unless he's a giant pussy)

What rev limiter?

i dont have a rev limiter well, actually it doesnt even run right now lol but, i do have megan track coilovers.

thosee are INDEED AWESOME SHOTS! , but I'm curious why did you choose the rx7 as a rally car?

Look up SCCA rallycross. There are several clubs around you that do it. For rallycross there are categories based on drive type. Like rear wheel drive, front wheel drive and all wheel drive. So when it comes to the rear wheel drive category the rx7 platform work really well because its has good power to weight and handles well.

whats the diameter of your rear tires in inches? Do you have stock rear suspension?

I found some winter tires for the ice racing season but I'm worried they won't fit, they are 1" taller than my gravels (25.6)

I have my whole rear subframe assembly lifted 2" with a few custom parts. And the front shock towers have been lowered and modified with the front a arms extended 3". Those rears are UTV tires that are 28"x12"r14. Because of me they have now banned the use of atv type tires in rallycross so i'm now going to be trying some 30"offroad truck tires.

There are several FC's and FD's rallying very sucessfully in NZ.

What SCCA region are you in? Would you mind snapping some shots of your "body lift"

Your setup has peaked my interest, lol.

I'm in the Tennessee Valley Region which is actually in North Alabama. I'm the current Rallycross chairman for our region. We had 10 events last year and all in all I did 15 Rallyx's in 2011. I have the car all apart right now for some off season maintenance and upgrade but I get some pics upon reassembly which is soon because the next race is on 25th of Feb. To lift the rear its very easy I just made some aluminum 2" spacers for the subframe, diff and top shock mounts.

I'm with the Detroit region, and from the looks of it you guys have better places. We are mostly on fairgrounds/horse tracks. They love to put hairpins in and make the course very stop n go rather than fast and flowing, hence why we have had 3 roll overs in the past 2 years.

I'll have to trailer my 7 down and check out the south's rallycross, or at least nationals.

Next rallycross is this Saturday, I took 2nd place this season in modified rear wheel, should have gotten first but I didn't do as many events as I liked.

I'm actually thinking of going up to one of your events just to check out a new place sometime late spring early summer.

Great crew, lots of regulars, the RWD modified class is a bunch of goofs there for a good time.

2012 season is currently up in the air as far as schedule goes. I'm sure I'll find out more on it at this weekends event.

"lap" times are as short as low 40s to high as low 70s I'd say. And you can run those tractor tires

surfaces get pretty rutted by us pretty much all the time, except for horse tracks they just get grippy!

real rally cars are RWD!
 

I have been rallying my FC for about 7 years up in Canada. Won the national 2L production class in 2009 with it.

Now that we run it in "Group 2" ("open" (unlimited mods) 2L two-wheel-drive class), I find it harder to stay competitive with a well set-up FWD car....but we are having more fun going sideways and are always a crowd favourite!

Raise it a few inches with a decent after-market suspension, invest in a good skid plate, and your are good to go. These cars are very robust!

We now have 2 rallycross FCs in the WDCR regoin (I run my Subaru though...) They're surprisingly reliable. I think both of them are more or less stock besides skid plates and interior stripping.

There is also a guy that rallycrosses his FB in OVR who I think is on this forum. His SN is noisycricket.
