Cabin Heat..!! Any interior heat shield ??

Guys,

On the first drive around with my Road Race FD (Stripped interior, no sound deading) first thing I noticed is the cabin heat.

Not sure if coming from firewall, floor or transmission tunnel; but I donīt want to experience that at 8500RPM in a race track.

I donīt have a chance to isolate from underneath or from the engine bay at this point, so am looking for someting to install for inside the cab.

Any experience on this ?? I remember some Best Motoring videos with inside isolation...

Would this work ??

Dynamat seems to be more like a sound barrier than heat shield... Am I wrong here ??

Racers out there please share your experiences...

Thanks..!!

where are you feeling it? In a first gen the header is like a thermal reactor that burns through the transmission tunnel.

you can run something like this.

HP Light Floor Shield | Heatshield Products

if it's your feet you can make a DIY buffer from some wood stock and space it off the floor just a hair, the small gap really makes a difference in what you can feel through your feet.

I've used that DEI floor and tunnel shield in my race car. I strongly recommend adding it to the firewall and the tranny tunnel UNDER the car. That way it keeps the heat from absorbing into the metal. It is more effective than insulating it from inside the cabin.

Make sure you degrease and clean the surface you are applying to very well.

I don't have any experience with this product but I have heard good things http://m.lizardskin.com/car-ceramic-insulation.html

I've used the DEI stuff as well. Haven't had the privilege of putting it to use yet (never ending race car build), but it was pretty easy to work with as far as installation. I used it under the car as mentioned above, on the firewall and trans tunnel. There are pics if you search for my build thread.

It is very important to put any kind of heat shield or insulation under the car between the exhaust and the floor, not on the inside of the cabin.

It also helps to put heat shields between the exhaust and the transmission.

The way the OP describes it , it only makes sense to insulate from under the car only.

There is no reason to let the heat come inside only to insulate it when you can achieve reflecting the heat before it even reaches the metal with using the DEI heatshields under the car.

I hope that you managed to work under the car by now and everything is now sorted out. :)

Kostas.
