will 89 GTUs competitive in ES solo II?

hi everyone, I have owned and autoXing a 89 FC GTUs for about 6 months now. My goal for the GTUs is give it a try in SCCA Nationals in year 2004, E- Stock of course. I know the MR2 NA are fast, plus couple 924s with M-options. I am wondering with the right driver and maxed out ES rules, does the GTUs stands a chance? I like to heard your thoughts, please feel free to comment, thank you.

Autocrossing has a lot to do with driver, while I think it's possible, you'll need every advantage you can get, like you said taking the rules to the max (and then some maybe ;)) At least you'd be unique, and a hero! Good luck!

I'll never win Nationals because I'll never be willing to put out the financial commitment. I would think that you should make your goal either a) doing the best you can autocrossing your GTUs or b) winning E Stock nationals.. if one of those happens to also accomplish the other, great!

If you choose "a", you'll have an idea after a year or so how it does against the competition.. if you choose "b", in a year or so, you'll probably know which car you need to switch to..

keep us posted!

(my opinion, anyway..)

Thank you SoloIIdrift and MechE00, I agree with both of you. I know why I brought the GTUs at the first place and why I chosen to compete in E Stock. I realized that it is going to cost quite abit to bring a 13 years old RX7 to Nationals condition and I am working on it day by day, and it is why mine try will be at 2004. I will need many help from FC/RX owners here in car trouble shootings and repairs

Now, since this is a tech section, first thing first. Has anyone had experience with the Tri-Point "front"sway-bar in a FC, or something similar to that with fine adjustments? please free to comment, thankyou.

You might want to break that into a separate thread, more people will see it that way.. (I have no such experience.. I'm new to the world of FC's)

I have a ES RX-7 in Atlanta. Having had this car for a couple years as my autocross beater, I've looked at the Nationals results and have not seen many (any?) competitive RX-7s. You may be able to access the results from Nationals online from SCCA or possibly GrassRoots Motor Sports (the best magazine in the world?).
The fact that we (ES-7s) don't show much near the top leads me to believe, even if I don't want to, that the top drivers in the country know that they can't win ES at Nationals in an RX-7. It seems like the top guys jump onto whatever cars are hot and right now, in ES that's the MR2 and Miata.

I'm certainly not trying to rain on your cake but that's what I think.

OTOH, the right driver, in the right car, with the right circumstances...on any given Sunday...

You CAN win reginally and locally if you set the car up right, remember to adjust that nut behind the wheel, and show up to the events. I believe there are three RX-7s in the top five point positions in Atlanta this year (not me :() and we have a fairly large ES contingent.
