Where to get a High rear gear ratio for FB

Looking for a Longer ratio rear ring and pinion for my 85 GSL.

Im currently running a Chevy 5.7LT1 and a Chevy T5U 5 speed tranny, and my gearing is awful. Rear ratio is stock (3.933 iirc)

First gear is worthless, and 5th gear at 70 is like 3k rpm (would be fine on a rotary, but not so great on a chevy v8)

My rear diff is about to blow anyways (car is lowered and my pinion has gone) so its time to fix it.

I know there are TONS of Shorter gear ratios available- all the Miata 1.8 and later RX-7 stuff, but none of those are slower ratios.

This is an XP autocross car, so not having to shift to 3rd all the time, and being able to pull out in 1st would be a plus

Any help would be appreciated. Also, I think the stock Camaro had around a 3.4 final.

None available - adapt a different rearend.

You'll probably have to do this anyway. My latest failure of the Mazda rear is an interesting one - I bent the banjo where the dropout attaches. There's a 1/8" gap in the middle, now.

You are correct that some Camaro's came with 3:42 however, a cheaper/stronger alternative is to go with a ford 8.8 from a wide variety of cars and trucks. They come with disc brakes, 3:08, 3:55 and 3:73 gears, most with factory posi. They also use the 5x4.5 bolt pattern which matches the 5 bolt Rx7 pattern. Swap in 5bolt hubs (if you haven't already) to your GSL stubs and away you go!

You might get lucky and score one with a usable width.

yea, I've been looking at teh ford 8.8 for a long time now, just wanted to see if anyone had found something else to work yet.

Only thing that sucks about going to 5 lug is I will have to get another new set of wheels.

Can you give me some more info about swapping the fronts to a 5 lug? Keep the same caliper with a new rotor or what?

and I currently have all GLS-SE hubs/axles/brakes- just using the GSL Pinion/ring for the slightly longer gearing.

When you get your new axles have them drill them to 4x110. I had that option when I got my axles from moser engineering.

car is 4x114.3 now. but yea, Moser sells that for the shortened ford axle. How do you guys mount the axle- the grannys kit or go 4 link or what?

I can with 100% certainty guarantee you that no Ford ever came with a Posi.

And IBM doesn't sell Xerox machines either!

Specs on the wheels and tires you are running? Just wanting a comparison to the setup I am running on my SSM FB.
