Where to get an Engine?
 

I'm building a track / street car. It's a 87 NA, I'm thinking about swap in a TII, where would be the best place to get my engine from? I want to have it rebuild, and maybe have some racing upgrade, to make it more durable, higher redline and more power. Thinks like a porting, etc. But still streetable.

I live in Kansas....so no shop builds motor here....I will have to get one shipped to my door. Anyone know any good place that builds good engine with reasonable price?

On a different not, anyone know any good place ( a book, or a web site, or whatever resource) for good, detailed information on building, tunning a racing car? I'm still new to this, so there r many things that I don't quite understand...for example, It seems to be common sense that you will get adjustable link when get new sway bar, but I can't seem to find infos on how to adjust the end links, or detailed info explaining what dose what. So if anyone can recommend a good book to read, or a good web site, that would do really appreciated.

can't help you on who to go to. since you have to ship, then i guess you should be open to anyone in the lower 48.

what is your budget? what is your timeframe for completion?

take a look at some of the major players (Mazdatrix, Pettit, PFS, etc.) they won't be the least expensive, but it can give you figures to start working with for your budget because they are probably not a TOO far from being realistic if you want it done right. then match what money you have to how "right" you want it done and find someone reputable to work with. good luck with whomever you choose.

for your question on racing info, my first thoughts are search on Amazon, you should be able to find something useful, but aside from that, if you're serious about this, then shoot a PM to the user jgrewe on this board, or go to nopistons and contact Lynn Hannover i would bet that either one of these very experienced men can steer you right. good luck.

There's a book called "How to modify your Mazda RX7" by Dave Emanuel and Jim Downing that may be of some help. Has chapters on the different parts of the car.

As for motors, maybe someone like Pineapple Racing in Oregan or Rotary Reliability and Racing in California may be some people to talk to. Also, Mazdatrix, MazSport, Pettit...

If you want the car to be streetable, DO NOT get a full bridgeport. We have a full bridgeport on our race car and it's barely driveable, especially at low speeds. However, it's fantastic on acceleration or deceleration. A street port or partial bridge port may be the way to go.

Check out Doug Miliken's "Vehicle Dynamics" Stuff are pretty technical and hard to read but well worth it.

Carrol Smith's Tune to Win, Drive to Win, Prepare to Win, Nuts and BOlts are good relaxing reads.
