What's the largest racing seat I can fit in the FD?
 

I'm trying to find an economical fixed racing seat to put into my passenger side, but I want a large seat so that I can accommodate any size instructor. Fritz tells me the EVO2 won't fit. Any other recommendations? I'd like to find something before i haul the car to Mitch Piper to have my driver seat mounted.

I know in our FC, the largest we could fit was a Corbeau FX1. The OMP BIG, and the larger Sparcos were too large. I think we may have been able to wedge an EVO2 in the car, but we came across the Corbeau, which worked fine for us.

How about an aluminum seat? - the 18" Kirkey Intermediate is what I have in my FC on the passenger side. It used to be the driver's seat, until I found a users Kirkey Intr. Road Racing seat.

I think your options are a Kirkey, or you could put a Sparco roadster in there, which is a dimensonally small seat, but since it doesn't really have the high sides of a true racing seat, it will fit a broader range of body shapes... yet is a fixed fiberglass shell to match.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'll look into the width of the Corbeau and the Sparco - I hadn't considered any Kirkeys actually for whatever reason, but I'll check those out too.

We had a kirkey in our old race car, but it was an Oval style seat. Terribly uncomfortable.

The Corbeau is something I could sit in all day long, fibreglass shell with nice padding.

I used the Kirkey Intermediate 20-degree layback seat for a while (this is their "oval" seat with the high side bolsters and no shoulder supports. I found it to be very comfortable with plenty of padding. Their "economy laybacks" have less padding.

My only complaint about the seat was that the side bolster would interfere with my upper arm when shifting, so I tended to get a heck of a bruise on my tricep over the course of a weekend. Not an issue for a passenger seat.

I had sparco torino's in my fd. The adjustment nobs had to be removed but they fit. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. The only prob was brackets. I had the universal sliders and had to make my own bracket to mount it to the car. Very comfortable but you lose a little in the leg room cause the seat will not slide ALL the way back. But over all it was comfortable for me and I am 6ft and 180lbs. Only thing I didn't like about the seats were that they faded very fast from black to a greenish color.

My FD race car has the interior stripped out so I guess this doesn't really pertain... but I have a 400lb friend who sometimes races my FD and we widened the largest size Kirkey aluminum racing seat by 3 inches and made it fit by boxing the transmission tunnell a bit. However, there is no way it can fit in a stock FD.

I believe on a stock interior FD the Cobra wide size seats fit and will accomodate most men.

I also just got a cage estimate from Piper Motorsport that will include a passenger seat install - at that point the interior will be stripped so it should be a bit easier to get a larger seat in the car.

Mitch got my Sparco in, thought I'd share a pic. I'm going to slowly start stripping the interior while I save for my cage - planning on having that installed late next year I guess.
