What's the best Autocross/HD/Track Tire for the 3erd Gen
 

I'm ready to Purchse them .

Now I don't have a extra pair of wheels/rims
these will stay on the car. I only drive it on weekends and autocross when I get a chance . I put an average of 1000 miles a year on the car. and is garage kept


I was thinking Kumho's or Falken's:confused:

Toyo RA-1

Everything else will be heat-cycled out of usefulness.

Do you know were I can get them ? or Web site ?

Falken Azenis are not available in useful FD's sizes. If you're not looking to set real fast times and just have fun with the car, a decent set of street tires will be more useful and more wallet-friendly than a set of R-compounds. They will last longer and be more inclimate weather friendly. Getting stuck in the rain with race rubber is no fun at all.

My short list for street tires looks something like:

Kumho MX's
Bridgestone RE750's
Toyo T1-S's


IF, and only IF, you plan on doing a lot of 10/10ths and 11/10ths driving ... I would not recommend the Toyo RA1's as the first choice. I would look into the Kumho Ecsta V710's, the Hoosier A3SO4's, or the Kumho Victoracers. The V710's and Victoracers can double as auto-x/track day tires, but the Hoosier A-tire is not as durable for track day abuse. The Hoosier R-tire is better suited for that. However, road racing compounds are generally not desirable for auto'xing. They need more heat to get to operating temps and you won't accomplish that on an auto-x course. The longer lasting road racing tires would be the Toyo RA1's and the Yokohama A032's. The Yokes are faster, but the Toyo's wear like rocks. Depending on what you do more of and what your budget can withstand will determine which R-compound tire is best for you.

So ... clear as mud? Good. :)

based on your driving habits i would look into a set of R-compound kumhos. they should be faster than the toyos and you hardly drive that much anyways. plan on replacing them in a year though.

I bought some used shaved Toyo RA-1's from Carl Byck and drive to/from the roadrace events with them. 235/17's on an FC and once heated they stick awesome. Better than changing them out at the track and less junk to carry. They are probably one of the best "streetable" tires for the track you can buy IMO.

If you only put 1K miles on the car they would be a good choice. After a few years tires get hard and you should get a new set. Keep them out of the sun.

Yes. But when you're driving to the track on your race tires and get a puncture you realize that a track day on the skinny spare just ain't gonna cut it...
