What type of tire setup should i use for autox?

I'll be possibly going autocrossing soon on the 22nd and I was wondering what type of tires should i use? I have Stock TII rims, Stock gxl balogna cutters and some aftermarket rims with i think 225's should i use the TII rims up front with my 225's in the rear or a different setup? Also what type of tires should i buy? good used ones or some used R rated ones? this is my first auto-x btw.

For a first event... (actually first season...) I'd go with some Falken Azenis... Decent used tires aren't gonna be a whole lot cheaper, so might as well go with new.

Don't know if you're turbo or N.A., but on my GTU, I found 225's back and 205 on front worked pretty well... Course, I blew it up before I really had a chance to find out...

eh i got a 88 gtu, and theres a guy selling azeni's at dirt cheap prices brand new and matches any price, he sells falkens wholesale. Thanks, any more tips?

Save your money and run the tires that are on the car. See if they have a novice class and run in that. Get a year under your belt see if it is your thing and then think about tires.
If you are bent on getting tires look for some used Rs for as cheap as you can for your extra 15s and run in E Stock. Then next year look for some good tires. It is better to learn to drive on sub-par tires and work your way up to 710s or A3SO4s.

Thats what i was thinking as well because i have some mixed tires on my 225's i think 2 are dunlop sp's but i do have to buy more tires for my TII cause they're bald from drift days. 15's have good rubber? any other suggestions

Kumho MX is a very good all around street/track tire for a beginner. Toyo RA1 would be next if you have an extra set of wheels. The rest of the R compounds are either slower than a RA1, or don't last near as long(not for a begginer;)). Carl

As an aside, almost everyone I know hates the '04 Hoosiers compared to the '03s. Not to mention the V710 can be as fast, and will last half again as long for less money.

If it is your first event don't bother buying tires of any sort unless yours are unsafe. Theirs absolutely no sense in putting "better" tires on until you can drive. All of us think we can drive until the first time we go to the track ;)

My first few events i used my present tires, Bridgestone Potenza RE92's. they're pizza cutters, and my ass end wouldn't stay under me, but they did ok. But now, after i've heated em up, they're hard as a rock.......damnit

I've been to the track before but at drift events, so instead of losing traction i have to keep traction, this will be weird..
