What kind of setup do you run?
For autox, track days, time trials, or road racing, what type of suspension and wheel/tire setups are you guys running?
I'm trying to get an idea of where to go exactly with my FC. |
Im using Tein RE coilovers. And Yokohama A048R. This is a good setup. The coilovers are pretty stiff. But they can still be used on the street. But it does not like hard bumps.
For racing tiers make sure u have a decent sidewall. Not to low. Wich will make the car sensetive. My setup is for a FD. But what is most important is the setup of the rest. Camber, Toe and so on. If u don't get it right, the car will not handle they way u wan't it to. Mine is understeer, understeer, understeer atm. Wich is setup and nothing else then setup. JT |
Well, I inherited the setup from the previous owner, but I'm running the Ground Control coil overs, with 400#/225# springs (f/r) and KYB-AGX shocks/struts. RB swaybar on the front, none on the rear. Seems to work well enough for me right now. Definitely a good bang-for-the-buck setup, but you do need to watch clearance on the inside of the tire to the strut collar.

I'm running Tanabe Sustec Pro S/S coilovers, and have been for many years. I have the first set to ever come to the U.S., so have put lots of (maybe 50k) miles on the setup. Absolutely love them, they feel amazing on a road course.
For rims, you may want to consider running stock FD wheels. I think you'll need spacers, but they are very light, and you can fit a 245mm tire at each corner. |
I'm running 400# F 275# R Koni yellows all around. All delrin bushings, adjustable camber links in the arms and on the subframe on my FC. It is gutted and I was running 225 50 15's on all corners until recently when I had on-power traction issues and swapped to 275 40 17 in the rear. I have yet to test the car, but I'm hoping I can put the power down. I'm currently set for 340 hp at the wheels at 10 lbs of boost. The car is way fun.

I'm N/A, so I don't think I'll have on-power traction issues. But is 225 wide enough otherwise? My current racing experience is that of autocrossing a 3640 lb (race weight) AWD car on 225/45/17 DOT legal R-comps. 225 is definitely not wide enough in that car.

225 should be fine for stockish power level FC's. The AWD car you cite above is 30% heavier than you.

Well the road racers in SCCA ITS and E-Prod with FC's typically run 5.12:1 diffs with the shortest allowable 5th gear, and only on the fastest of tracks do they run out of gearing. So on a stock rear end, or even on a 4.3:1 it'll be fine. The lower profile 15's don't change the gearing enough to cause problems with top speed, unless you've got a lot of road, or lots of power.
