Not true. All gases expand when they are heated; they must. In fact, the air you breathe is about 85% nitrogen already if I remember correctly.

Pure nitrogen has no moisture in it so the tires' pressures climb very consistantly. Compressed air is every bit as good as long as it is dry.

Now, does filling the tires with helium reduce unsprung weight?

Power is way overrated on an autocross course. That's why you see a lot of small, low power cars like Miata's doing very well. If you can stay smooth, and keep your momentum thru the turns, you will do very well. On a small autocross course, you really can't use the power anyway.
