What to keep, what to throw?
 

Im most the way through my teardown of my 2 donor cars, will I need the composite rebar? Do you guys run with that? I assume the air pump and most of the intake equipment goes too, and the shrouds.

What about the stock windshield? Is it worthwhile taking the unbroken one from the S5 and replacing my broken one or should I just go lexan from the start?

Composite rebar? I have no idea what that is, sorry.

What class are you running? Lexan for the front is a huge weight savings, but it's not permitted in a lot of classes.

Airpump is gone. Shrounds (assuming you mean the 5/6 port sleeves?) are OK to dump too.

Shrouds as in the fan shroud, rad shroud etc..

The composite rebar is the bumper reinforcement underneath the bumpers. They come in either composite or metal.

Im not sure about class right now, its hard to say what I can actualy compete in here locally. Im looking into CACC rules right now to see what class would suit me best.

Fan Shroud - You staying stock fan? if so, keep the shroud, IMHO, it's pretty effectively designed. If you're going electric or no fan, then toss it.

Oh, you mean the bumper reinforcement. There's two things there, there's the kinda of foamy pieces behind the bumper skin, and there's the big ole metal piece. Class rules will dictate your decision there. If you can toss it, I would. OTOH, the foamy stuff, I tossed.

Figure out your class before you go too far. To be safe, I'd grab that windshield, you can always take a hammer to it later ;) Have fun with that, because removing mine ended up with a 3lb sledge after about halfway thru due to frustration ;) Those auto glass shops earn every penny imho.

(oh, and don't do that, cleaning up the glass was a pain in the ass later)

I'll go with an electric fan, had one on the previous car and liked that setup, nice and simple.

I have to try to get in touch with some local guys about what class I should look into. It looks like the CACC abides by SCCA rules for SOLO competition. Hillclimbs and solo time attack events, any suggestions on where the FC would be somewhat competitive? E Prod always intrigued me for road racing, that would be a nice end goal, but at this point running a race season would be cost prohibitive for me I think.

Can you run non-glass windows in ITS?

No.

To be "legal" in ITS you also need things like the windshield wiper reservoir and the horn under the hood. Check out www.improvedtouring.com if you think that's a way you want to go.

As far as "keeping and throwing", keep all you can, you can always throw it away later but hard to do the other way around. Good luck trying to keep the windshield glass, they almost always crack when removed.
