What happens to hoosiers when they die?
 

On my last session at VIR this weekend my front tires started feeling like they were disintegrating in corners, kind of felt like the track/tire being greasy but made a low rumbling noise. Then on the straights the rear tires started kicking up huge chunks of rubber that had me concerned about the driver behind me. I bought these used and have had them out for about 8 track days since, they look ok but my guess is they're toast.

My experience has been Hoosiers die nearly instantly. One day they're fine, the next no grip at all.

Yeah, this happened in between 2 sessions with about 1.5 hours separating them. They felt great in one session, then felt like they were falling apart the next and I was understeering heavily. I could also have just picked up alot of junk on the track I suppose.

I have always had good grip until the outside edge shows cords. Then I call Tire Rack :-).

Yep and slicks are even worse.

No matter how much temp you try to get in them they just won't soften up and stick and you feel like you're in Fred Flinstone's car :)

I agree with Finky. I have often run my Hoosiers all the way to chord before I lose grip. Which Hoosiers did you have R3S04 S05 or R6s? I have heard that some early S04's chunking out the shoulders but the S05 and R6's don't have these issues.

04's, so maybe thats what is happening.

Do you have cords showing? I would put them up in your garage and see if they will harden up... It sounds like they got too hot... Driving a little hard????? UHMMMMMM?? :P

I will say... VIR is rough on tires.... from my experience....

Actually on my last session I was having turbo problems so I was just kind of coasting around and letting people pass, maybe they were too cold and picked up junk. There weren't any cords showing as far as I remember.
