In what class is the TII competitive? (autoX)
 

I just got back from my 2nd autocross today and after talking to a few people I've come to believe that the TII isn't very competitive in B-Stock because of the S2000. Same thing for BSP. Is there a class where the TII will be competitive or has it gone the way of the FD?

Have you got your car maxed out to the legal limit of the rules?

Also, since it is only your 2nd autocross, you probably still have a lot to learn about driving.

that's not what I'm asking. I know I have a lot to learn. I know my times will get better with more seat time but that still doesn't change whether or not the TII is a competitive car. I'm not saying after losing I found out that the TII isn't competitive. I'm saying that I discovered, completely separate from the racing, by talking to a few people, that the TII is not competitive in BS or BSP. This has nothing to do with my experience or skill.

and what do you mean maxed out to the legal limit of the rules? I'm asking what class its competitive in. Its hard for me to modify my car to compete if I don't know what class I should modify it to compete in...

Last years national champ car in BSP was a TII. The winner this year will also probably be a TII. With that said you are talking a lot of money (over $10k in mods assuming a healthy motor to begin with and you doing the work) to have a TII that will be nationally competitive.

Stuff I would personally look at doing first would be....

1. Make sure your car is 100% healthy (motor, turbos, brakes, etc).
2. Get good front/rear sway bars. (The rear you may want to get one with enough strength to hold harnesses for future).
3. Get springs/shocks or a coil-over setup.
4. Get a second set of rims (if you're going to drive the car other than at events) with some R compound tires (Hoosier, Kuhmo, Yoko, etc) that are wider and flare your fenders. You don't really want to go bigger, lower profile and wider on stock size height rims are probably better for autox.
5. Get some HP (look to try and get around 300rwhp) through whatever you feel is the appropriate path to that.
6. Get a cage (more chassis stiffness).
7. Following the rules remove all of the weight you can from the car (if this isn't going to be a street car this is a lot easier) while keeping your comfort requirements (i.e. in BP you don't need a passenger seat at all and I believe in BSP you can make it a tiny little child size seat although you might want to be able to take passengers for a ride so this may not be pounds you are willing to dump).

The drawbacks to running in BP/BSP if you're going to use this as a street car is some of the stuff to be class competitive you won't want to do as it'll pretty much require you trailering the car.

Oh I left out step 0. Buy/check out from library, etc all the books you can on race driving theory and slowly read them (slow enough you take some time to visualize each of the pieces of theory talked about, don't just blow through all 100 pages of the book in two hours because its short). Pick one or maybe two things to work on each event you go out to (don't try to improve everything at once or like with modding a car you won't know what specifically you did to improve or hurt your times).

And the most important thing is don't stress, focus on having fun and letting the car just run free; if you try to push it, it'll push back and your times will suffer and you'll also have less fun.

i saw the results of the nationals from last year and was told that the driver of that RX-7 is absolutely incredible. But from what I'm hearing, the TII's best shot is in BP or BSP. Excellent. This question was more for my curiousity than anything practical. Thanks

I thought the t2 ran in ASP? when did it get bumped down?

I would think we could make some time on the s2k's comming out of the corners.

The BP winner at nationals last year was a TII driven by Steve O'Blenes.

Yeah, I'd like to know when the FC turbo got dropped from ASP to BSP???

Crap people, ASP is ruled by the FD, Porsches, and Corvettes.
The FC turbo has NO chance, unless the other cars all break or don't show up.

We just covered this in the 2nd gen section, and Prep class is so close to Mod class with the exception of restricted engine mods - it's a matter of money and resources at this point, and there is no point in trying to build a car for the Prep class unless you're rich.

That would be BP. Last year, BSP was won by Tom Berry in a C4 Vette. To be competitive in Prepared .... $10K might cover your shocks, wheels, and tires. And then, you have to engineer the car to the letter of the rules ..... IOW, you're gonna need a lot more than $10K.

I think the TII could be competitive in SM2, but it's yet to be proven. Then again... SM2 is the bottomless pocketbook class.
BP class has been won by an FC TII for the past 3 years.

I dont think the TII is competitive in BS or ASP.... There has been a serious proposal to drop the TII to BSP but I doubt the TII would be competitive there either.

B Prepared; 1000.00 set Real Wheel 16x12(4 recomended;) ), 1000.00 slicks(hoosier), 2500.00 GCAD coilovers, ~1000.00 other suspension bits, ~350rwhp ~2500( only has to go 1 minute at a time) What is expensive is making the wide body look nice, Mine will be at SS7, ~6000.00. 10-15K is very doable IMHO, the mods on O'Blenes BP car are not that extensive, he is an excellent driver of a very competitive platform. And the FCs were bumped up from FP to BP FWIW. Carl
