What Autocross class should I be in?
 

Raced for my first time last weekend, they put me in ASP (novice). Here are the specs on my car. 1993 FD touring, 5 speed.

Strut tower brace
Racing Beat catback, stock main cat
HKS downpipe
water injection system
K&N drop in
Koyo radiator

Max boost is 11-11.5 on primary turbo, 9psi on 2nd because I drilled the wastegate pill.

Everything else is completely stock, i.e. wheels, tires (v rated), shocks, springs.

I did not think I should be in Street Prepared but I guess it won't hurt. I was just wondering if that was the correct placement.

Its been years since I looked at auto-x rules but I think that downpipe,strut brace and water inection put you into ASP. The fact you don't have the best tires you're allowed in ASP in your problem.

I know my tires are no good, but they're almost new. Previous owner had just installed them 2 years ago and they only have 3k on them. They're Dunlop Direzzas but only the V rated ones. Somebody told me they're nearly an all season tire. I figure that it will be good to learn on bad tires rather than have good tires cover up my mistakes.

Good attitude. You probably will be in ASP. You'll be able to run novice or street tire class as well. As you mentioned, keep your tires, learn all you can with the tires you can... and it will make you faster long term. I'm not too far down the road from you. Let me know if you ever hit any track events.

any modifications beyond stock will put you straight to ASP - there is no street touring option for the FD

I haven't looked at the street prepared rules in a long time, but I think the water injection is not allowed in that class. I think, it may bump you all the way into a modified class. I don't think it is even allowed in prepared classes.
The drilling out of the wastegate is another street prepared "no-no".

That being said, although I can't speak for all chapters, but you may be able to "get away" with these mods in your local chapters ASP, especially at local events. Novice status usally gets you some lead way as long as you are not winning to much. :)
ASP is a fun class and usually will give you a few cars to run agains, so you can challange yourself while learning and improving your driving skills.

Drilling the wastegate pill lowers the boost provided by the 2nd turbo so it should not put me in a more competitive class. That is something that I would not bother telling anybody about since it will not make the car faster and is totally unnoticeable.

ASP is the correct class.

ASP allows water injection.

ASP now allows boost control except as disallowed in the rules (more or larger wastegate(s), intake boost relief valve).
