Weighed my FD today!

My instructor at school is a big road/dirt racer, so he has a lot of cool toys to play with. He brought his Longacre scales in today so we could check out how our own cars 'weighed in'. I was pretty shocked at the results of my FD. It weighed in at exactly 2649lbs, with gas, no driver. The LF had 601lbs RF 633lbs LR was 701lbs and RR was 714lbs This all was about 47% F and 53% R. The diagonal and side to side weights were all 50/50. The reason I was shocked was because my car is now single, battery moved to the back, no air pump, a/c, p/s, and caged. I guess I somehow managed not to disrupt the balance too bad. Just sharing. Take care everyone.

That will help with braking having more weight out back. Going single on the FD sheds a lot of weight. The stock turbos/manifold weigh a ton. 2650lbs is impressive!

How do you like the car without p/s? What size tires are you running? I'm thinking about doing the same.

So you have no AC or PS?

BoostorLose 12-09-04 06:33 PM

GNX-I figured that it would shed some weight, but I'm pretty pumped that is still weighs that little, and retained near 50/50 distribution even through all of my mods. I have no problems without it, I park far enough away from everyone anyway to worry about it in a parking lot!! I think it gives me more feel of control when I'm on the road too, maybe I'm weird or something. Oh and I'm on stock rims and tires for now until my Works get here, 18x9F with 265's and 18x11.5R with 315's or 335's I can't decide.

1SIC-I removed both. I sweat my ass off all the time, A/C does no good!!
Take care both of ya.

Cant wait to weigh my car...last time I weighed it it was around 2650 with a load of stuff in the back, still had AC and stock seats. Now I have no AC. no ps, sparco roadsters and a host of other weight mods, oh yea a gt40r as well. Wish I could get a CF hatch :(

How extensive is the cage?

Stock stereo? Full carpet and everything? How much gas?

Mine is right at 2,615 (no driver) with 4 point M2 cage, no AC or PS, GT35R single, 15 lb battery (out back too), no carpet padding, 17 lb racing seat (stock passenger), no front speakers, tar removed, and no rear plastic or bins.

Stock turbos weigh 63 lbs with manifold, solenoids, etc. In my case the A-Spec single saved about 25 lbs.

AC and PS with ancillaries weigh about 38 lbs.

Thats a pretty nice number.

OFF TOPIC: That bridgeport in your avatar, you running that in your FD?

BoostorLose 12-10-04 09:49 PM

The cage is pretty nice, but nothing too crazy. Basically your standard 8 point. Roll bar, 2 downtubes rear, 2 door bars, halo, a-pillar bars, and an X between the rear. No stereo, or speakers, behind the rear seats is stripped. And I wish that was the bridge I was running in my fd. Mine is just standard bridge, well about as standard as you can get with that kind of setup. Take it easy guys.

Thats just a street ported 6-port end steel from a FC or FB...not a bridge port in his avatar

BoostorLose 12-11-04 10:11 PM

Bastard-i never said it was my car, it is an awesome pic I thought however. That wouldn't be the most functional bridge for an fd motor. Take care guys

That's not a bridge! That is merely a streetported secondary plate on an FC 6port. The top port is an auxilary port and the bottom one is part of the normal system. The auxilaries open up at ~3800rpm via actuators. A bridge has the new smaller ported added towards the water seal which neither of those have. Did you steal your avatar from someone named Elysian on this board? Because he has that same exact avatar which I thought were the ports he did a while back on his 6port, looked exactly like the pictures he posted in the nw section.

And since when do you have a bridgeport BoostorLose? Either you're confused or you haven't updated your signature because it says " '93 RX-7 R1-Large Street Ported Motor "

BoostorLose 12-12-04 11:05 AM

Dub-thanks for the info, I never said it was a bridge or that it was my picture. I merely think it is an awesome picture, that's all. And yes I have yet to update my sig because my 1/2 bridged motor has yet to run. I'll update it when I get dyno numbers. I don't like saying I have something that I don't...yet. And I don't know how this thread on me weighing my FD and sharing the info turned into and educational lesson between a 6-port and a 1/2 bridge. Let's keep to the topic if possible.

Ill be weighing my car as soon as I am done with my new motor mounts and get it running.
Best guess is anywhere between 2450-2550 lbs. Only thing hurting is the diff brace and the tranny brace, those together are pretty hefty. I am also taking the airbags out since I will be replacing my steering wheel with a sparco. My goal is to reach 2350-2400lbs. No carpet, no AC, no ps, No interior plastic from the doors back. No tar/sound deadening. I also have a 10 lb cf hood. Hopefully I can get cf hatch soon as I get some spare $$ laying around. I am sure a set of stock rear rims with slicks and the front skinnies will help a great deal as well.
