weber back to stock

I'm 61 and bought a gen 1 (former SCCA car). I doubt if I'll wheel to wheel anymore and just enjoy HPDE and track days. Whereas the Weber 48 IDA adds a bunch of HP, it's a challenge to start sometimes. Does it make any sense to remove the weber and intake and go back to a more stock configuration based on the way I use the 7? I have the stock carb and manifold.

plan B you could spend some time jetting the weber. the P ports need 1 or pumps of the gas and then fire right up.

Thanks, I'll do a little research on the jetting and go from there. The hard start could be related to a lot of things,,,I was just blaming the carb

If you wanna let go of the intake carb setup, id be willing to buy if youre interested. I live in wisconsin so i dont think shipping would be that much since youre located in michigan.

Also, you can look into getting a 2.0Kw starter on the car. Basically the automatic starter motor guts in a manual starter, Banzai Racing should be able to help you out.

Most of the rotaries on a race track are running webbers.... formula mazda, SCCA production, GT3 etc....

Let me look and make sure I have all the stock parts and I can find someone to help me retune with stock carb. Sorry for the delay...

If you are just doing track day kind of stuff, the stock carb will be fine, especially assuming the engine is stock ported. I have been racing ITA and various endurance groups for years with a stock Nikki and stock port 12A. If you really want easy starting use the choke, otherwise eliminating the choke will probably help a little with airflow. Since I started out in Spec7, I can say that the stock jetting works fine. I have since gone with slightly richer primaries (110 instead of 94 stock), but there was not much, if any, improvement in power output (verified by dyno testing). The Nikki is very reliable in my experience and provides sufficient fuel and air for a stock port 12A.

If the engine is ported something different than stock carb might be a better idea.

Have fun.

Carl
