wanted, 18-20' car trailer open, or enclosed, HELP
 

Like it says, I am looking to buy a car hauler, 18-20' open, or enclosed. I am looking to spend no more than 1500.00 on an open, or ~4000.00 on an enclosed. I have not been able to find one anywhere in Cali. I am willing to drive up to 300 miles or so for the right deal. Locally everyone wants ~1800.00-2000.00 for a 16-18' open with no options. This makes me nuts since an 18' dovetail can be purchased new for 1250.00 in the midwest/on EBay. So if you know someone whom has a trailer they do not use, and may be interested in selling LMK. I bought a trailer through here a few months ago. I went to Georgia to get it. It has been worth it so far.

AzTex in Fontana sold me a 19' dovetail open bed. custom 7' long ramps. D rings. With electric brakes on the front axel, NEW tires and rims, elec. brake controller $1800 out the door.

Recieved this e-mail from a past customer and Racer. He has a 3rd gen GT2 car. Wanting to sell his trailer.

"Bought a new trailer. Know anyone looking for an enlcosed trailer I'm selling my 1985 Wells Cargo, 22', diamond plate floor, full tire rack, work bench, cabinets, shelves, tongue hoist, car wench with remote, plummed for air/12v/120v, new front axle, new brakes. $5000."

AZ-Tex seems to be out of business, or at least no longer on the web. BTW what you bought is just what I am looking for. I think I just need to walk into some local places, and play a little hardball ;)

Steal prices are high right now. So prices on new trailers are potentially higher than they would have been even 6 months ago. If you can find a used trailer from a private seller.

Damon, bought the trailer from Derek. Thank you for the lead. Trailer prices are out of control, I just paid 2200 for a used 18' open trailer! I shopped every dealer in a 300 mile radius, the cheapest "real price" on an 18 was ~2300 for a stripped wood deck model, and ~2800-3400 for a nice diamond plate model. The one I purchased also included some nice upgrades, like a tool box, and a custom adjustable tire rack. The crazy thing is these trailers are 1000.00 less in the midwest for the wood deck versions. Every dealer I spoke with expected to be raising their prices anothe 5-10% next month as well...

You'll like Derek's trailer. Few people are as anal about appearance/function as he is.

Great! I've never seen it but if it's prepared even half as well as his car it should be a pleasure to use.

It is nice, I also checked out his car, very clean, and well prepared, obviously;) He had "R", and "A" 03, and 04 hoosiers, plus V700s, plus V710s in his garage. He said of all the tires out there right now he really likes the 710s(if you can get them). Looks like he runs 285-30-18s all the way around on his IS300. He had 275-40-17 710s though. Said that the initial turn in, and transient response on the 04 hoosiers was not as good as the old tire. This is interesting, he went on to say that Hoosier told him to expect higher absolute grip, but he said he was unable to find that do to the vague turn in. I suspect it is like everything else, for 97% of drivers, you will get better wear, and the tire will be more predictable, but for national cal;iber guys that civility may translate into slow response. He did say, he likes his car a little loose, so higher grip, and slower turn in may make it harder for him to drive his style, and may be great for other folk. On a side note, the Griggs Mustang folk really like the RS04 for road racing. I suspect the 710 is probably one of the fasteset out of the box, but that for ultra smooth guys with alot of power the hoosier may be worth a shot. UI wil be using the 710s for "street forays" in my road race car:D

I don't have first hand experience with them but everyone I know who has tried the S04 Hoosier has said the same thing. They are not "bad", but definitely a different flavor compared to the S03 that insists it be driven differently to get the best times out of it.
