Very Hot Cabin
 

Hi Guys,
I am a proud owner of a 1st gen rx7, with all the works for drag racing(480hp) and a 2nd gen FC3C with slight mods. The reason I'm started this thread is that, I would like to know whether you guys face any heat in your car cabin after a while of driving? I notice both my rx7 are very hot in the car, but my other piston car doesn't have this kind of problems. Is this due to the location of the rx7's transmission? Or is it because the rotaries generates too much heat? Is there anyway, that I can reduce this heat? Pls advise.

Put reflective heat tape and insulation in the hot spots. But if its a racecar your gonna have to kind of get used to it lol... And yes the heat from the rotary is alot higher, including exhuast temps. Meaning the exhuast running under your car is alot hotter. So yes your car will be a bit warmer inside.

I heard somewhere that it is 1800* compared to 1200* in a piston engine. Putting more heat shields similar to the stock ones would help.

Thanks alot guys, will be putting heat shields to those hot spots and maybe getting the exhaust wrapped.

Be careful with exhaust wrap. I have heard that it can make the pipes rust faster. I don't know if that is a problem in Singapore

I drive a 3rd gen, and let me tell you, it gets HOT in there!!! Recently I ran at Summit Point (two weekends ago), and the ambient air temp was between 94F and 102F all day, and temps in my car were breaking 115F during a 20-minute session on track. Granted, I have no air conditioning, but I don't have windows either, and one would figure you'd get some cooler air travelling 140mph down the straight, but it just seems to get hotter in the car on the straight. I eventually figured out that if I held my hand flat out the window in the airstream, I could direct some of it into my helmet visor, but this provided limited relief, and it only works on the straights (heck, if a corner worker saw that, I'd probably get black-flagged). At one point, during a practice session, I had to come off the track because I could no longer focus - I stepped out of the car and fell on the ground! Fortunately, my friend's trailer has A/C, which probably saved me from heat exhaustion. All of the sessions that weekend were tough, and all of them I came in dehydrated and exhausted. I learned a very important point from that weekend - I need a coolshirt!

As a matter of fact, most of the 944 Cup guys were sporting coolshirts...

As others have stated, I believe this is just a fact that you have to accept driving an RX7 - the car runs hot, and a lot of that heat soaks into the cabin. If you're a racer, get a coolshirt - it is worth the money.

exhaust wrap
 

exhaust wrap isn't a bad thing if you are careful and unwrap it when not in use. the wrap causes the pipes to rust because it traps moisture in there when your not running

the wrap will also cause the metal of the header to fatigue faster and will cause the header to crack prematurely. better option is the ceramic coatings like cermakrome and others. check around there are better sources for heat barriers than the old wraps.
