I want to spend around 3000 for suspension. I am going to use PS for street(just to drive to track and back) and new r1 or hoosier for track use. I will mostly run it at summit point and VIR because it is not far from me. I am not going to run in any class.

I will drive this car sometimes on street but would like to set it up towards track car.

now i have tokico and pettit springs.

There's two to start with, neither one would be good for the street at all, though.

how are the ohlins?

also, penske shocks, are they ready to bolt on?

Have you ever driven the FD on the track before? Unless you have a decent amount of track experience with the FD, just run several events with the setup you have now.....

agreed....buying multi way adjustable shocks such as penske and ohlins is just a waste of money unless you are A, skilled enough of a driver to set up a race car (not many are) and B, experienced enough in chassis setup to know what your doing when your turning those knobs. by your questions you are neither so unless you just want to be able say you have (enter race shock name) on your car and like click away on them trying to fool yourself that its going to make you faster spend the money somewhere else.

I have been tracking for over 10years but yes i am new to fd. So what is great track set up for 3 gen rx7? I don't want to waist time and money on parts that doesn't work. I would like to get some opinions from drivers who track their rx7.

I disagree....a well setup set of dampers will widen the "sweetspot" making the car less nervous. I ran for years on the ubquitous Koni/GC/Eibach that most favours....a good choice, especially for the price....but at the limit it required more driver skills since it can bite you over the threshold. Switching to Penskes made it more enjoyable/relaxed to push a 90%+ yet more forgiving when nearing the limits.

Having said that, most high end dampers will be only good when tuned properly by their builders. You can select Koni 2812, JRZ, Moton, Penske, Ohlins, etc and they'll all be excellent if setup by a knowledgeable builder. Otherwise, it is just an expensive conversational piece. When at that level, you will also want to consider who/where one can send it back for servicing and the ease/availabilit of parts for said services.

I don't know of any drop in damper set for the high end...all the low end and low-mid stuff (Koni yellows, Teins, JIC, etc) will have bolt-on applications.

If you can/want to pay for this, Proparts.com or Truechoice.com will custom build a set of Konis for you, Fordahlmotorsports.com is good with JRZ and Moton, I've used Guy Ankeny (although his site is down - www.ankenyracing.com) to build my Penske Double Adjustables, and finally GNRX7 tried a group buy for triple-adjustables awhile back: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ghlight=penske

$3000 is way shy of what you need for an ultimate suspension, especially if you also want sway bars, sway bar endlinks, bushings, trailing arms and so on as well.

It is enough to do a pretty good suspension though.

I already have bigger sway bars, which came with the car. i think they are pettit racing sway bars front and rear. i was thinking of 3000 for coilover only.

anyone here used kw coilover for rx7?

what spring rates do you guys run for race car?

What car did you use to track? What rates did you choose then? What did you feel about the rates you used to run?

What's your current car weigh? what tire compounds are you choosing to run? What aero improvements are you looking at using? How do you prefer the car to drive (little loose? Tight?)

my car is 95 r2 with full interior and i think it is around 2900pounds. I am thinking about running new bfg r1 or hoosier race tires. i like the car to be little loose.

I have the perfect track street combo for you :) Most expensive coilovers are oil filled and require rebuilding frequently.

The set I have are GABS super Rs with Ground control coilovers 500 front and 400 rear.

I've used this setup a few times and they work great.

I'm in Charlottesville VA so you can come pick them up for 650 or I'll ship them to you for 700.

Bang for the buck those GAB Super R's are nice. I had them on my car. Bad rebound though which gives a stiff ride. Aside from that they are nice for the price.
I had 550/400# springs I believe on mine. I daily drove them and also raced them a few times on road race tracks (Infineon/Thunderhill- west coast).

I attempted to do a group buy on Penske double adj coilovers; however after it was all said and done using the best parts (new Penske shocks, Hypercoil springs/pillowball bushings/external reservoirs, billet mounting plates etc) it was going to be around $5K for the set. I had essentially zero interest from people on here.

That also got me thinking that I can get a set of Teins for example for around $2K and spend the other $3K on track/gas/tire fees. If/when I surpass the limit of these I can then upgrade at that time.

IMO here is what you need for a dedicated track FD suspension/brake wise:
big brakes (stock units won't cut it) (RacingBrake.com has a nice kit they are releasing shortly)
delrin bushings (18 of them) $500-600 in parts (need a HD press to remove/install)
new pillow ball bushings (6 of them $350 approx in parts)
larger front sway bar
18x10 +50 rims with 285/30/18's around or comparable 17" rims with 275's

I'd steer clear of the Teins. A friend of mine picked up a set of double adjustables and had them dynoed. Almost no compression adjustment and outrageous rebound rates.

He means pushrod actuated shocks, meaning custom fabrication.
