If your sponsored in any real way post the following:

who sponsord you.

what they are willing to offer you( free parts, contingency, discounts)

HOW it happened ( what initiated the sponsorships were u approached:rare:, what sorts of presentation material did you use?)

just wondering how it happend to YOU....

i got $10,000 worth of sponsorship from a company called sport compact pro. It's kind of generic, they pay 50% of my parts cost, and i have like an account that the money is in. The three sites they sent me to order off of all suck, and carry nothing for my first gen, but they are willing to go through companies that i want. So i'll have to hook them up with racing beat, mazda trix, and a few other places, to get my stuff. I got it through a mag. ad., and the original sponsorship they offered me was for a turbo 1st gen eclipse i had, but i told them i sold that and bought an old rx7, at first they were gonna cancel me, but i told them i planned to race it, and they wanted someone to race for them, so they wrote up the contract, and now here i am. I have to go to 4 events sporting two of there stickers. I get paid commission for any magazine or internet coverage i get. By the way, if any of your guys decide you do wanna apply, which you're all totally welcome to do. Make sure you tell them you heard of them from me, i get commission from that too if you do get sponsored by them. Drop me a PM if you decide you wanna go get sponsored. Beware of this so called sponsorship, it is a scam and is covered in another sticky post.

As for sponsorship, it is difficult to get, in an older car especially so, and those that do get it are unlikely to tell you who, how and why so you dont take their resource away from them.

If you are serious do a search for "Motorsport Sponsorship" and check out what the profesional teams are doing.

Most times it is through personal contacts that you acheive real support, it's not what you do its who you know.

This is the biggest scam. Just do a google search and you will get like 50 links about how its a scam.

I noticed you're in San Antonio.
One of my sponsors, Natwell Supply Corp (supplier of gases and welding equipment) is based in SA. He's a friend of mine and when I moved up from HPDE to racing he came onboard as a sponsor.

Like most, it's a product/services type sponsorship. It's tough to get actual money unless it's a televised series.

If you need bottles of gas, just about any kind.. or welding supplies, please look him up.

If you want to make a small fortune in racing, first start with a large one.

At the local level you will very rarely see money actually change hands as it's typically a barter system. You put their name on the car and they help you with whatever service or products they specialize in.

The local car club at my school has several big name sponsors. Most of them were achieved through the contacts the club president made while working at Dynamic Racing. Whenever they recruit new sponsors they basically tell them 'our club does this, this and this, we can promote you by doing such and such.'

Right now our sponsor consists of Greddy, Endless, Kaaz, Dynamic Racing, and a couple local tire shops. There are definately more, but those are the ones that come to mind. We get discounts from all places and one of the shops lets us use the lift for our "Tech Days." The president of the club receives special perks (larger discounts and free wheel alignments, etc).

The first thing I did was write a short human interest piece to the local paper. Included a funny story about my wife driving the race car to work. Cops gave a strange look: she in a business suit, briefcase, and a five point Simpson harness. When I went to get sponsors I showed them the article from the paper and the picture they ran. I went to some sports bar owners and got a little bit of cash for putting their name on the car. Any trophies I got went up at the bar. Brought the car with all the logos to any special bar event. BFG gave me big discounts on tires (R1s shaved at the fatory) twice a year. They also had a contingency money plan. They paid first and second place. At the end of the year I got a check for $500.00. My company matched that and a check for a thousand was given to the Make-a-wish foundation. That also went in the paper. The next season people asked me if they could sponsor. I never made any money but with discount tires and a few free drinks I had three good years of racing. If you can show your sponsor that they're really getting something for the money, news paper space, trophies, apperances, anything, your chances are better. Besides, sponsorship is a tax writeoff.
