Unless you have access to a very nice shop, not really posible. I've worked on many tube frmaed cars (mostly formula cars though) and fabricating one is out of reach for the typical machanic, even one with plenty of welding experience.

the welding part of building a tube frame race car is not the hard part. chassis geometry, safety systems and frame rigidity are large engineering type problems to be overcome. a better bet would be a ready made and engineered chassis. these are available from several chassis builders. first question should be what type and more specificly with whom are you planning to race with? Late model stock cars are some of the fastest race cars out there and the price of used chassis is reasonable.
