Transmission Shift Linkage Question

I'm swapping a complete S5 TII engine and tranny into my Austin Healey Sprite. Pretty much everything fits fine, but the shift linkage is about 6-8 inches too far back on the turbo transmission. Does anyone know a simply way to shorten this linkage up (i.e., move it forward)? For example, can I swap in a shift linkage from an earlier/different tranny? Or am I better off machining a new setup from scratch? Or??

Thanks,
-Bug

If it was an NA tranny a truck tail section and linkage will move the shifter up about that far. I know the Tll tranny is different in the gear area, I don't know about the back half. You might be better off going with the NA tranny just for the linkage option. The car is only going to weigh about 1600lbs, you won't be stressing things much.

IIRC another option is to use an SA 4spd trans. They dont have a remote linkage setup so they are a bit shorter. Cant remember how much off hand.

EDIT: dont know if it'll hold up to a TII though.
