Track Tires most Durable?
 

What tire will you get the most out of? I will be doing some track days and I want, for now, something that I can get a few days of running on. Later I will go with a Hoosier or a Kumho. I was thinking the AO48. I do not want a street tire as this will be a dedicated track car. I need something I can go practice on and not have to go buy tires after one weekend. Thanks

What sizes will you be using? The Victoracers have good wear.

I have heard toyos can wear and wear but have no first hand experience on that.

Size 315 or 305 18"R 275 or 285 18"F on CCW wheels. I am going as wide as I can. I will have wide fenders, Pettit rear and shine auto Spec b fronts. I am looking for a good practice tire basically. Even a hard compound slick would be ok as long as it last longer than one weekend. This will be a time attack car.

I don't believe Victoracers come in 18's, so that leaves that tire out.

I'm running RA-1's and they seem good for a long time. I have 9 full track days on mine and they are still sticking. I flipped them on the wheels 2 track days ago. I also ran the YOKO AO48's and they had a lower treadwear but somehow had less grip. I ran 3 days on them and they showed little wear. 275/40/17 on all corners btw.

When you say 9 full track days, what would that be in total mileage? So the AO48's actually would probably last longer but with less grip than the RA-1's.

You are VERY limited by brands in those tire sizes....pretty much the closest I see is:

Toyo RA-1: 275/35 18 front, 305/35 or 335/30 rear

slightly smaller:

Yoko A048 or Michelin Sport Cup: 265/35 18 front, 295/30 rear

Since these are "practice tires", I would go with the A048s based on price.

Final spec Hoosier R6: 275/35 18 front, 315/30 18 rear

They make a 285/30/18 and a 315/30/18 AO48. Which is what I'm thinking of going with for practice.

The Toyo's last and are probably the cheapest of the choices. Cheaper than Mich. anyway. I ran a full AutoX season last year with 4-5 track days and I plan on using them on the track this year until they are gone. I would say they will last 9-10 track days(new ones).

Toyo RA1 is my vote, definitely shaved, to save money I use them for practice sessions then switch to hoosiers for qualify and race, if you heat cycle them and put them away for a week toyos will go on and on and on, a great tire to set the car up with, still drive well after many heat cycles, the switch to hoosier is not radical, just faster.....
