Tires for Drifting...

What kind of tires for drifting a FD3S...?

I have Yokohoma AVS... It seems to work pretty well.

The less traction you have the more you will drift!

dennnnis 02-24-04 08:48 PM

Less traction will slide out easier but you will have alot less control. real crappy tires in the rear is good for underpowered cars, but if you have an fd i dont think thats the case i would get pretty good tires in the rear too.

...whatever you can find in the dumpster.

My yokohoma tires over power too much. Well I guess I'll just slap on the bang up tires from my 3000GT.

start with shitty tires, when u get really good, like the pros, swtich to something like a yoko avs es100.

i work at a goodyear, and i get all the used tires i could ever want. i even get high performance tires with like 60-80% tread left from people who are apparently rich and want to get new tires just to see how different they handle!

odd, drifting made my driving better. the car control i learned from sliding around lets me push harder through corners. but my driving style was already a tail happy style.

slicks man its all about the slicks.

Yeah, this seems to be the consensus I've heard also.
Pushing past the limits will give you more confidence in grip driving when you start to lose it.

just try to find some used tires, you dont need to buy new ones all the time, just make sure you have more grip in the front then in the back.

S13 Slide 03-01-04 07:01 PM

i run es100's and their peachy. like them alot.

Ranzo 03-01-04 07:16 PM

everyone says run shitty tires in the rea until you get like the pros..........hahahaha well if you always use shity tires you will never get as good as the pros.

Run whatever you can afford or find ......yes even in the dumpster..... I always buy new tires for the front Azenis St115 or Direzza then I ususally put my older tires that used to be on the front on the back. when those wear out I go to a used tire shop and buy the best tires they have that I have enough money for.

If you are doing drift on the street you will want slippery tires in the rear cuz the road tends to get more traction and you cannot maintain consistent high speed on the street. For circuit I find it better to use better tires in the rear due to more room, more speed and less traction. This is different from track to track and also depending on conditions. I normally have several different tires mounted up for different times but I have learned to just control the car for whatever tire I have on at the time. So just get what you can afford and try different tires from time to time and you will learn alot.

Notice I did not mention at any time to use BALD tires....

HKS_DRIFTER 03-01-04 09:43 PM

exactly, no bald hahah
