Tire softener w/ non "r" compounds?
Long story short - just got married, no $$ for another set of tires right now, track weekend in 2 weeks. A friend reccommended I try some hot lap tire treatment to make my kuhmo mx a lttle softer. He swears by it, but runs ra-1's. For $30 I think it's worth a try??

Yes, it works. If you are driving the tires to the track it is not worth it. I have had best results wetting cloth and wrapping tires with that then wrapping celophane over that and letting sit a couple of days rotating occasionally. It will wear off quickly at the track but the first couple of laps will stick. It is intended more for qualifying/short burst situations.

They have a product that supposedly lasts "200 laps", I think I'll try that. I will be taking the car there on a trailer.

I forgot to say to rough up the tires first. I usually just use a wire brush. Some people will use a sander. Also, you could clean the tires first with mineral spirits. I have heard of people doing that too. Good luck. Prepare them in a well ventilated area and use gloves. That stuff is nasty.

Just ordered some of the hot lap premium, if it doesn't help much I can always use it on my mickey t's for the drag strip.
