Which tire size would you go with??
 

Ok I'm going to be needing new track tires before next weekend, and I was looking at getting the Nitto NT01s. My wheels are 17x8" front and 17x9" rear. I will be getting wider by next season hopefully. My main problem is the 255/40 is on backorder, I was going to go 235/40F and 255/40rear.

Now my options are 235/40 or 245/45 Front, and 245/45 or 275/40 rear. I would like 245's and 275's but I wish the 245's were 40series and I'm not sure how sluggish the 275 will feel on a 9" wheel. What do ya'll think is the best thing to do??

IMO, a 235F and 255R would be the better setup for those wheel widths.

i would suggest going with a different brand of tire since the size you should use is on back order. bfg has recently came out with a good track tire....if you dont like them, maybe go with the uber expensive michelin track tires...

I agree 235 and 255 is ideal, the 255 is just on back order. I also don't want to spend the extra money for a mich. or Hoosier type of tire. I guess I could just go back with the Toyo's, I just don't have a way to shave them by next weekend, can you say chunky!!

What about the Victoracers? You can do a 245F and a 255R.

IMO they are more of an autoX tire. I want something that will last, as I already have AutoX tires, these are going to be strickly track only tires. I have Toyo's now, and like them, I really just wanted to try the Nitto's since I've heard they don't chunk when unshaved due to the tread design.

As near as I can tell from the fitment spreadsheet this will fit on the car, and the tire manufacturer says it will fit on an 16x8 rim, and the diameter, at 25.3 inches, doesn't look that different from the stock 225/50R16 street tire of 24.85 inches.

If I'm tracking the car, am too cheap to buy bigger rims, and am willing to give up some straight-line acceleration for extra rubber in the turns, why is this a bad idea, and why hasn't anyone already tried it? Too much sidewall squirm?

A quick search didn't turn up anything useful (although max cooper mentioned it once). The tire's been around a while, so I am assuming there is a good reason NOT to use it, since it appears to be a very easy (and, relative to buying larger rims, cheap) way to get a much wider tire. I'm just not seeing it.

Any comments appreciated.

I am currently running the Avon R compound 225/50R16s (which work well and wear astoundingly evenly, BTW) and am getting a little greedy, I guess.

I "drove" a 350Z with NT01's on it, they are not bad track tires.

Though the move from beat up V700's to new V710's was a kick in the pants.

U can try and get ahold of Yokohama A048R or Bridgestone RE540/45 or what the new ones are called.

The Hoosier tieres are kinda usless on rain tho. So i would not use those for normal driving on the road.

But see if u can get ahold of the Yokohama or the Bridgestone Tiers.

Bridgestone has a $100 rebate on four tires for SCCA members going on for the next month or so. That may influence your decision.

For the people talking to me, thanks for the help/suggestions!! But I found a place in NC that would shave Toyo's for $10 a piece, and had the prices basically the same as edgeracing.com, which was the cheapest I could find them. Needless to say I bought some more Toyo's, shaved, and they arrived yesterday.
