timing light??
My old Sears Penske timing light died the other night. I was wondering what brands everyone's had good and bad luck with? Any brands to stay away from is what I'm really looking for. Every once and a while I do have to check it on my Spec7.

I bought a cheapy from Wal Mart and it lasted about 2 years. Just quit. Bought Sears best a couple months ago with the timing advance and all that. It's worked well so far but only time will tell. It was only a few bucks more - Sears sells the same cheap one as Wal Mart.

I recetly purchased a Mac Tools TL200 (I think) timing light with advance on eBay for $70. Very nice unit.
My non-advance timing light preference is for one of those battery powered ones. I don't like the extra wires to the battery and, on cars with a relocated battery, it really makes things easier. I have one from Flaming River. |
I just cameback from Autozone. They were really funny when I asked, "Do you have any timing lights?", the look on their faaces was fantastic! Timing Light?? So I added "ignition" timing light. You thought I asked them for a camshaft for my RX7!! Needless to say I didn't buy one there! I think I'll try my local Snap-on or Mac Tool dist. if I can get a hold of one.
