nice!
love that front end! |
What front end is that?It will look great when its done.
|
Front end is a dead project from Rotary Extreme, no longer made.......:( . It is a Mazdaspeed GTC 3rd gen nose adapted to a 2nd gen. We are also adapting the Mazdaspeed revers cowl hood to the 2nd gen for this project. Carl

sorry, but damn thats one ugly ass car
|
Hey 5.slow, look who's talking :D
|
man you have nmo idea. so ill eave it at that, and im looking at the person whos talking's car... and it dosent look like a honda body kit in 4 colors
|
Whitesmoke, go back to the lounge ;)
"nmo" "eave" "whos" "talking's" "dosent" Are these words? Also, sentences usually begin with capital letters. Haters like you are a dime a dozen, what is the point in slamming other peoples work? Does it make you feel better about yourself? Just curious, what motivates people like you to say negative things about other peoples projects. Thanks, Carl |
Forget the haters Carl. I think your car is coming along great and will look awsome when all is said and done, not to mention smoke just about anything out there, including v8 cars.
Whitesmoke, you could have at least done the swap right and used a Chevy small block or Buick v6 :p: |
Thanks Dave, I'd love to see some pics of your project when you get a moment, you can email them to c.byck@comcast.net .Where are you at with wheels? I am getting ready to order mine, curious if you have, or have decided on yours? I am going to use SSR SP1 3 piece in chrome. Probably 18x12 rear, and 18x10.5 front. I will use Goodyear slicks, in an R430 compound, You can get a ~330 wide tire in a ~25 aspect ratio, so its only ~24.5" as opposed to 26" for a 335-35-17. Anyway, drop me a line anytime. Later, Carl

wouldnt be bad if it was already painted, and i dont care about grammar because this is the internet and not a thesis paper.
paint it and lose the front bumper. looks worse than this . |
Probably faster than any 302 powered car out there. \/
https://www.rx7club.com/forum/attach...postid=2318910 btw, you're probably not capable of writting a thesis paper. Carl, as far as wheels, they will be the LAST thing I get. You can fit that wide of 18's under there huh? My project is on hold until January so I can finnish up my vert/TII conversion (and no it's not just a simple stock engine swap). After that though, it will be full steam ahead and I'm hoping to have it ready for the beginning of the 2005 s.u. season with NASA. |
it may be faster than my RX7, and if it is whoopty do, because carl will be driving one day normally and POP goes a seal... and i drive right past him breaking traction at 50mph.
|
Thank you for the support guys. I realize it is not a purists FC, but It is my car, my dream, and pretty fast;). Whitesmoke, leave it alone, your just digging a deeper hole, if you do not like it, don't look at it. Dave, I "think" the 18s will go. I am re-measuring everything, but Tripoint ran 17x11s out back with a 315-35-17. The slicks are a little wider, but they are also shorter, so they should fit, if I blow it, the wheels are three piece, and I can rebuild the wheel to a smaller spec. I know Rishie is running Work Equip S2R 18s on his widebody, but trying to get info out of him is a little challenging at times ;) Anyway, good luck on the conversion.
'88, I've seen your work, very nice, and original, I think I can appreciate that. Thanks for the words. Right now I am working on the cage, IC ducting, and a new manifold for the bigger turbo. See ya, Carl |
Originally posted by Whitesmoke it may be faster than my RX7, and if it is whoopty do, because carl will be driving one day normally and POP goes a seal... and i drive right past him breaking traction at 50mph. You don't like the bumper, good for you. You're ruining the whole concept of an RX-7 with your project and who's to say that awful 302 even looks good either. Go away... you're not contributing anything positive to this post. Carl, who is Rishie? The Works S2R are the wheels I'm considering as well for mine when the widebody kit portion of the project gets closer. If you gain any helpful info I'm very interested in it, offsets, spacing in the well, what kind of kit he has, etc. |
Impressive keep us posted. I can't wait till the day that My futur wife will be as enthused and understanding as your... and i have the time and money to undertake something like that! Right now it is school and school and school! and spending money! sux!

Rishie owns(or is a partner in) ARD performance, actually I think he has the S1 wheels, very similar to the SSR SP1s. He has a tripoint widebody. In the rear, I just measured, and there is 6-7/8" of clearance. I fit a 17" Supra front rim, with a 255-45-17 using a 3/16" spacer. That gave me ~1/8" of clearance. I measured from the hub, to the outermost portion of the tire, and it was 7". So basicly (7)-3/16, and a little more tire, you can easily fit a wheel with 6.0" backspacing (allowing for the fact that most wheels are 1" wider than their stated width, so subtract another .5") I think I have lost myself here:D . Anyway, a 18x12 will fit, but to fit a 335 with a section width of ~13.5"will need to be dead on. I still need to do some more measuring, but I can make it fit.

Thank you. Another question for you. What are you going with for transmission & rear end or are you sticking with the stock TII? My issue is more surrounding the considerably greater torque the 20B puts out... wondering if you were looking at other options for reliability or ability to change gear ratios, etc.
|
I'm starting with stock, I think it is reliable past 400ftlbs so long as you don't drag race. The axles are a weak link, I will be using the chrome moly ones, or the custom ones in the back of the summit catalog. I will be adding coolers, but so far my diff temps have not gone over ~160* after 30 minutes of racing. Alot depends on driving style, I am pretty easy on trannies, and clutches. Rather than throw alot of money at some of these things, I plan on watching when the stockers fail, so that I have an idea of how much more I need. I will be adding a surge tank, and a second fuel pump for sure, as I have some fuel supply issues below 1/3 tank.
Carl |
Any more pictures of that reverse scoop? Where did you get it? And do they offer it as a whole hood? Sorry if these questions were asked already I didn't catch them. I will be starting the body work on a tii I'm getting soon. And would like to do any body mods while I'm still in the bumping stage of the project.
|
You shouldn't be having fuel problems at a 1/3 tank. Whas this already covered?
|
I know that I should not, but I do, so until I install a cell, I will use a surge tank and another pump, this kills two birds, since I probably will need a little more fuel to support the ~500hp goal.
|
Carl,
Keep up the good work but dude....i hear alot of things about making a 500hp (flywheel or at the wheel), which is hard. It's possible to do when drving 100% for few laps but the temps gets pretty hot and you have to pit (hence, no long sessions). I am in the same boat as you are....building a racer for Time Trials. First i thought I would build a 400 or 450 rwhp car but more and more i hear experienced builder and racer, such as Fabain (yellow 3rd gen), that it's hard push that hard for long periods. So i'm keeping the boost down and working on cooling the most. -joe |
