Suspension Set up on an IT7 Car.
Hello- I have an SCCA IT7 car that truely needs springs all the way around and shocks in the rear... Can someone give me some pointers on what shocks to use and spring rates? Any good places to buy from? I just bought this car about 2 weeks ago- and I am just going through and bringing it back up to race readyness since its been almost 2 years since its been raced.

Go to G-force engineering (http://www.gforceengineering.net/about_g-force.htm)
Buy the book (http://www.gforceengineering.net/products.htm) Read the book Call Jim Go Fast... |
Certainly a winning option!
You might also try Mike @ ISC; he is local to the SE region (okay, FL is not GA, but you know...) www.iscracing.net M |

Agreed. Personally, I think Jim's current ITA spring setup is a bit stiff, particularly if you don't have high dollar shocks, but he is dead on with everything else. I am going to have him assist with my EP setup when it's time.
Buy the book. Great education even if you don't agree with him. |

Buy the book. Great education even if you don't agree with him. I do believe that IT7 can run all his products. I've run my ITA car in IT7 before at Hallett. I'm no expert but I believe the biggest gains can be had by fixing the rear. Ditch the rear sway, put on Jim's panhard and tri-link GT kit. Good luck!:) |
Before we all jump on the band wagon with the G-Force Panhard bar do we understand theTOTAL function of a Panhard bar ? The G-Force mounts to the chassis on the right hand side. Some other manufactures mount to the chassis on the left hand side. Tom Thrash & Bob Neal have cars that the Panhard mounts to the chassis on the left hand side. They do get through right hand corners real well. Many tracks have more right hand turns than left hand turns. Understanding the TOTAL function of the Panhard bar will give you something to think about.
Have Fun ; ) David |
Panhard Rod 101
NASCAR road race cars have had the panhard bar mounted to the drivers side for the last 30 years or so. Both of their road tracks have a majorty of right turns. Watts linkage is the only way to go both left & right the same. NASCAR doesn't use it because it not track adjustable like a panhard rod.

We put Jim's suspension setup on the ITA car we worked on, and it made a night-and-day difference. Watts links may be grand and all, but Mazda's sucks. |
Does anyone here know anything about the KC Raceware 3rd link?

Kc Racers
Those people are all old time racers and know their s@#t. They know what they talk about. Call them and they'll tell you all you need to know. DICK.

Yep.. the rear bind.. is truly a pain.
Sebring.. Turn 2 short course approaching tower turn.. the car accelerates REAL SLOWWWWWWW. I have to crank the turn a bit tight and unbind the rear to have that... what feels like 5 or 10 hp shot. You run it all real smoooooth and proper.. and you cant hit 4th (3.90) Hit it chopped a bit.. and NOT a nice line.. and the car leaps and you grab 4th and eat a little in it. Gots to change all that around. After I buy the 4.88 and 5.12 /sigh |

Once I have the car in my possession ( its in shipping) and I've looked it over, they are first on my list to call. Marcus Pro7 & ITA first gens. |
Count me among those that wouldn't cross the street to piss on the Clarks if they were on fire, as they ripped me off personally for a reasonably large sum of money in a very "Hayes-esque" fashion. Definitely "caveat emptor"! Fair warning.

hmm... Bos, care to share? shoot me an email; marcus@marcusmiller<dot>net.

http://www.kcraceware.com The ITA car I just bought has one.... M. I have installed the KCW piece in a customers car. Definitely a beefy piece and I doubt that you'll have any issues with the link itself. I'm not too keen on the installation method as you'r supposed to weld it in. 1) it doesn't tie into the factory seams or other "structural" areas and 2)you're "supposed" to install it from inside the car... meaning slicing a hole in the floorpan. Last time I checked, I don't think IT allows that kind of mod for a traction bar. Some more pics of the install: http://www.izzyscustomcages.com/projects.html |
Thanks Scott!
looking at it (with the car onthe trailer), it might be an ISC piece, it looks quite a bit like the one on the website. This panhard bar is running real low under the diff, and is not adjustable.Does that sounds familiar to anyone? The car has a long dual primary exhuast system, merging as the pipe goes over the rear axle. Suspension parts are bilsteins in the rear and tokico's up front. I'm pretty familiar with the tok's as I run them on my pro7 car; do the bilsteins have the same shaft diameter? (Are they a direct swap for the tok's, including through the camber plates, and into the strut body?) That's about all I could tell as it was getting late. I'll investigate more in the morning. I love new toys! Marcus |
So are you keeping the P7 car, Marcus?

The idea with the ITA car was to use as our 25 hour car this year, as well as the fact that it was a cheap buy. If I can afford it, I'll keep and run both of them. Marcus |

ISC has the rear bilstein's listed at $82 a piece. Time to prep the P7 for its next event, then I can start playing with the ITA car. MArcus |
Pictures of the two, (I'm thinking cousins at best...)
http://gcrall.miller-motorsports.com...sp?fldr=RX%2D7 Major discovery of today: It has 1 inch steering spacers (shoud I be using 1.5 inch instead?) Marcus |
I think the ITA car we work on has 1" spacers... but it may be 1.5". One thing is for sure... putting spacers on is a PITA!
