Street Prepared allowances

I'm having some trouble trying to find out if some draintrain components can modified/replaced without pushing me into Street Modified. The literature is unclear about some specific things, IMO.

Here is a list:

(1) Relocation of wiring harness connectors. Simply put, I'm splicing the wire to extend the length/reach of the harness but not actually removing anything.

15.9.E - Wiring harnesses may not be removed in whole or in part. Wiring connectors for emissions control devices are considered part of the harness, not part of the emissions control system, and may not be removed.

Sounds ok?

(2) Replacing vacuum solenoids. I found an industrial solenoid which meets the spec and is possibly more responsive and accurate than the OE version. I can live without this mod

15.9.A - Any ignition setting, adjustment, or system may be used. A stock ignition sensor on a cam cover may be removed, and the hole may be plugged. This modification may serve no other purpose.

Under Induction

15.10.C.1 - Carburetors, fuel injection, and intake manifolds are unrestricted. Alternate throttle linkage and connections to facilitate installation of allowed induction systems are permitted, but may serve no other purpose. If an induction system item is allowed to be removed and its original mounting bracket can be removed by simply unbolting it, the bracket may be removed as well.

The thinking is that solenoids are part of the emission/induction system since removing all of them only affect those systems.

(3) A variant of the poor man's Non-Seq. I know that doing the full conversion is illegal in SP since the rules explicitly state not to touch the turbo itself, but there is an allownance for boost control (whether electronic or mechanical). On the other hand, there's probably no point in doing this because the mod sacrifices low-end torque (something I'd rather have in auto-x), but it would simply my setup.

(4) Are custom IC ducts allowed? The rules say IC's are unlimited, but there is no mention of how the air can be directed to it.

15.10.C.3 - 3. As utilized only on engines originally equipped with forced induction, induction charge heat exchangers (known as “intercoolers” or “charge air coolers (CACs)”) are unrestricted in size and configuration. Air-to-air CACs and radiators for airto-liquid CACs must be cooled only by the atmosphere, except for standard parts. Body panels, fascias, or structural members may not be cut or altered to facilitate CAC installation.

Lengthening the harness to wire stock sensors is fine. The removal rule is to prevent weight savings and lengthening the wires doesn't do that.

Solenoids must remain stock. They can be removed if the rules allow removal of the device they control but if you're using them you must use stock ones.

You cannot make your turbos non-sequential and be SP legal.

Ducts can be anything you wish as long as they do not violate any other rules (no cutting holes in the hood, no cutting the chassis, etc). Basically if you can fit the duct under the hood and through the stock opening without cutting up the car you're fine.

Simple rule of thumb is that if you have to read something into the rule to make it sound like you wish then you're breaking the rule.

Great, thanks. Now only if I had asked these questions earlier I could've saved myself some grief.

I'll break down the SCCA rulebook further:

- Cheap & Easy...illegal

- Expensive & Complicated...legal

/[SoloII rules bashing]
