strange safety cage need

im going to be running into a lil money soon i need to put a roll cage in my car that can allow me to maybe club race SCCA , drift, time attack, AND still be a car i can take out on the weekends run it on the street,, Im really kind of lost as to what course of action i should take. Any input will be appreciated thanks.

SCCA is the only one of the above that has any rules, AFAIK, and they have certain requirements that make it difficult to street the car. I've done it, daily'd my racecar for 6 months and weekend drove it for 3-4 years, but its not particularly enjoyable after a while.

My advice is don't waste your time trying to build a street/race car... build it to race and nothing more. If you want a lightweight, fast street car -- buy another tub.

+1, and used race cars are pretty cheap, much cheaper than building it yourself. Save up and buy someone else's race car.

It can be done, but it wouldn't be something the significant other would look forward to riding in.

Biggest problem is that it'll be the worst kind of compromise. If you stay street legal, you won't have much fun in Club Racing, but Formula Drift could be a little interesting & the Time Attack's and HPDE's become a whole lot more fun knowing that you can notch it up just a bit.

Along with what the other's have said, get a second car with one being the daily. A caged car can be done on the street, but it gets old after a while.

Oh, and I'll toss in the obligitory "You'll bash your head in in an accident" so you don't get 10 responses telling you that ;)

You'll bash your head in an accident.

Anybody mention that yet...?:lol2:

You'll need a full cage for SCCA so a roll bar won't cut it. Dual purpose cars end up being no good for either purpose.
