Sparco Race Seat in 1989 FC
 

Bought a new Sparco Pro2000 seat and planted rails. No matter even if I place the seat on the floor I cannot fit without hitting the roof with my helmet.

Any options? This is for my 1989 Turbo II (with Sunroof) that I will be using for Time Attack.

One shop suggests dropping the floor. Sounds insane expensive and not willing to spend any more for this years Time Attack.

There is merit in buying a fully built car. Mind you I need to drive the car to the events.

Ian, this is the angle I had to put my 20 degree Kirkey at. Go ask Al for pictures of the inside of his car as well. It can be done without cutting up the floorpan. If it makes you feel better, my 6"4" budy can race my car without issues.

I did have to remove all the sunroof tracks though.......

Thanks Eric. One day I must swing by your garage! Not sure if can remove my sun roof rails. I was looking at the roof wondering if I removed some of the interior trim I would be able to get some extra height.

Did you remove the stock metal seat mounts already? I had to do this fit my Cobra seat. Just drill out the spot welds to remove them and then bolt the seat directly to the floor.

I had a Sparco Rev in my '90 ITS car. Used the Sparco seat mounts. I didn't have to modify the floor at all but you do have to remove the stock seat mounts. I also removed the headliner, sunroof assembly, and made a panel to replace the sunroof. Fit wasn't a problem at all. On my first attempt I used a Momo seat mounted to the stock rails to make it adjustable. It worked great I just wasn't digging the seat and after trying the Sparco fell in love with it and just went forward with the Sparco mount. Save the stock seat track, in case you decide to put the stocker back in.

I cut out the stock supports and bolted my Pro2000 to the floor with the 1/4 sliders it came with. Last year the floor started to rip open and I welded in a 2"x1" section of rectangular tubing to support the rear of the seat. (as well as patching up the crack).

Thanks for all of the responses. I will try and look at removing the sunroof first cause that will be the easier route and should gain another inch of room or so. If this does not work then its into modifying the floor.
