are shifters like this used often in racing?

most shifters that I've seen have been directly linked through heim joints and bars, so I'm questioning how positive can a cable shifter feel. This one in particular was made for VW's. Has anyone had the chance to use a cable shifter; how did it feel?

Since the RX-7 isn't a cable shifter it wouldn't work, and the labor required to make it work would ensure anybody that ever looked at it thought you were out of your gourd.

I can't imagine it would feel very good, either, but I'm sure some friggin' air-cooled nut will chime in with how awesome a loosey-goosey shifter feels. :)

true, but a lot of cars do use cable shifters; mr2, celicas, s10, many VW's as well. I understand that this would not work on a Rx7 I was more so curious to the feel and the reasoning why this is a shifter that is used in "all the factory rally cars and many of the top VW racing cars thoughout Europe and the USA"

I understand that sellers will often boast about their products for sale, but I don't know if this is the case here. Seriously I don't know.

btw old vw's those that were aircooled at least didn't use cable shifters rather ball & cup styled shifter that connected straight to the nose of the transaxle. The typical loose feel comes from bad maintance and old bushings.
