SCCA Autox Solo2 Streetport & Bridgeport Classification

First off, sorry bout the title length, but I searched for this and couldnt find the answers:wallbash: , so I pretty much stuck in all the keywords incase some down the line needs to find this info:icon_tup:

As the title says, does anyone know what the Solo2 classification for streetported and bridgeported 13B n/a's are?

Thanks in advance:)

Either type of port job will put you into a modified class. SM2 I believe...

yomo 04-22-08 02:43 PM

that kinda sucks, considering the power differences between the two port jobs... oh well, looks like i'll be bridgeporting then, lol

If it is the type of 13b that came with the RX-7 1979-92 then you could also run in F Prepared. Still fast cars but you can run true racing slicks which saves money if you can find a road race guy to bum used tires off of.

yea, its a 86 13B n/a, thats nice to know. thanks

Don't think so, there is some porting allowed in Street Prepared classes.

Hopefully someone with a little more knowledge in this area will add to the thread.

With a boinger the bore can be increased 0.047, and port matching may be done in the SP classes. I don't know how this translates for a rotary.

In this case, the allowed port matching is at the UIM/housing (and exhaust-manifold/housing) interface and no more that one inch from either side of this interface (same as the rules for Improved Touring). It does not refer to the rotary's chamber ports.

If I read the Solo-II rules section 15.10.Z correctly (covering Street Prepared Mods) stock camshafts are required, so stock valve lift and duration must be used. This would translate to mean no enlargement to the stock intake and exhaust chamber ports in a rotary.

So it looks like Street Prepared is out for a car w/a ported engine. In addition, reading through the Street Modified rule set it looks like engine mods are limited to what you can do in Stock, Street Touring or Street Modified. Since open cams are not allowed in any of these classes, then neither are ported rotaries. So a ported engine throws you straight into Prepared.

I of course meant "LIM/housing".

I went back and re-read the Solo-II Rules. In Street Modified, hot cams would be allowed under the "Open Drivetrain" section (16.1.D). Therefore, street and bridgeports should also be allowed.

Yeah, I've heard that porting rule argued both ways. I think that some people are interpreting it the way they want to. I would love to do some porting, but as I read the rules it simply isn't allowed. I'd be very happy if I was mistaken on this, though. :)

Engine modifications are unrestricted in SM so porting would be allowed:

"D. Drivetrain and related components (induction, ignition, fuel systems, etc.) are unrestricted except for the following limitations:

1. Engine block must be a production unit manufactured and badged the same as the original standard or optional engine for that model. Badges that exist as marketing aliases for the manufacturer will be recognized as equivalents. Swaps
involving makes related only at a corporate level are not recognized as equivalents. Models produced as a joint |venture between manufacturers may utilize any engine from any partner in the joint venture, provided that an engine from the desired manufacturer was a factory option in that particular model (e.g. Eagle Talon available originally with either a Mitsubishi or Chrysler engine, may use any motor from Chrysler or Mitsubishi). This allows engine blocks manufactured as production units for sale in other countries such as Japan or Germany.

2. Maximum engine displacements per class are specified in Appendix A."

No porting at all in SP, but there are a couple guys racing that seem to have some sort of idle problem.

Not 100% accurate, you can port (gasket match) the intake runners between the UIM and LIM and LIM to the housing as long as you don't go deeper than an inch. Porting the actual ports going into the rotor housing is not allowed in Street Prepared.

Matching intakes is helpful, but it is really not porting.

Hopefully you have your answer. If not the best source for SCCA rules information is at the source - www.scca.org. You can download, for free, all or part of every rule book the SCCA has. Hope this helps
