SCCA Autocross Prepared Rules Changes that affect RX7s

If you are competing in SCCA Autocross with an RX7 you need to pay particular attention to some proposed rules changes that are on Page 5 on the current Fastrack news. See link below

What am I missing here…is this a bad change??
Unless the engine availability becomes a challenge again. Just a question not a poke at the OP

I posted this here to make affected parties aware of the fact that this is being discussed.

Is it a bad proposal? It depends on your perspective.

These are my opinions:

Likely it is not a good idea to allow a Rotary engine to be swapped into a Mazda that didn't come with a Rotary like a Miata. This occurs in road racing and if a car built to that specification is autocrossed then it should be classed in XP not FP

However, the rules proposal that would limit the kind of rotary engine that can be used in a car that came with a rotary engine originally is not right . There should be no restrictions in this area. For purposes of classification in a racing class, a 13B and a Renesis have the same displacement and physical size. A 12A is just a shorter version of the same thing with a lower displacement. And yes, I know that a Renesis is ported differently from the factory and all that this entails. However, this class allows all forms of race prep porting so at that point OE induction and exhaust porting is a moot point.
.
Allowing an RX7 to fit a Renesis or an RX8 to fit a 13B (or even a 12A) just makes it easier to build a car and race it.

that is where every other sanctioning body has gone. in NASA and Lemons its pretty much run what you have as long as it has safety stuff. NASA also does a HP/Weight

on the surface it makes no sense for the Prepared classification, but was there any reason made elsewhere on why or what’s driving this?

The SCCA doesn't do HP/Weight they do displacement/weight in both autox and club racing. The SCCA rules philosophy is that all cars are prepared to maximum rules allowances. Where this falls short is when engines of the same displacement from different manufacturers cannot make the same power. But this is a situation where the comparison is pretty much apples to apples. So not sure why this change is needed.

I really do not know.

There is a big to do over a tube frame car that showed up in C Prepared at the 2021 Solo Nationals. So allot of the proposed changes are driven by that car and some of the letters written to the SEB lately. Maybe the RX4/RX7/RX8 thing is driven by that??
