Rotary Lotus 7's out there?
Anyone already running rotary power in a Lotus seven clone? What are you using for power. I'm intrested in track/autocross applications.

Check over at the Locost forums, there are several projects over there using both 1st gen and 2nd gen drivelines and suspensions.

Do a search through the race forum, There was a pretty long post about this just a few months ago
|
I'm working on one right now, unfortunately it's still in the frame stage...
|
Definitely keep us appraised. I've been looking at the locost design and have really thought seriously about it. Right now I'm still sorting out my FC track car, but the long term vision may be something a little more home grown. :)
You may want to look at: http://www.locostusa.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2078 and email him with questions. Good luck, -b |
here's the link to the mcsorley plans

As long as you're comfortable working on rotary engines, and since you are building your own frame, the only big issue you're facing is engine fitment. IIRC, this wasn't too much of a problem, but just make sure that the height of the engine intake will fit under the bonnet.
The bigger engineering challenge seems to be adapting the suspension components from an FB or FC to the Locost. -b |
PM "rocost" he has a rotary 7, we've met a few times and he's sharp.
He has a build website here: http://www.firstclass.com/~ron/locost/ |

http://www.kitcarmag.com/featuredveh...car/index.html Didn't I also see you at the Park City autocross in fall 06 with a 3 rotor of similar chassis? How did that end up? Dave |

I been look this car's info for long long time..... can you post some more pic :) . and I think you did a great job on this car.
PS: post some of crazy aero thing you done in Solo2 national ;) http://home.comcast.net/~brucesallen...ed_Shadow.html That was not me at the SCCA Solo Nationals but Jerry Fink and his son Derek from Media PA, the builders of my car. They now use a big single turbo setup. He does not use his Laminar COncepts Web site any more. |
Ahh, that would explain why I found absolute zilch when I searched for Laminar Concepts later on.
The 3-rotor single powered car was just so stupid powerful they were having trouble keeping it pointed straight. I watched them closely and I don't think either one of them actually put the pedal down all the way to keep from spinning. Yours is quite stunning with the production quality bodywork. Dave |
Been a few over the years here in the UK. Being RHD getting the steering in is fun. Mine uses a 'V8' hood to get the alternator sorted.
|
An instructor at my school is building one at the moment...I dont have pictures or id post them up, but hes got a bridge port NA motor under the hood. Hes been working on it with his dad, and its been a long project.
