Wondering about an affordable cage for my 85 SE that is scca approved for IT racing. Any suggestions????

I don't know about in your area. I think the best way to find out is to go to the next event and ask the guys running your car where they got theirs done.

The one NASA recommends which works with SCCA is the Autopower cage from IO Port Racing.

Bolt-in is $500.

Be careful when getting custom cages done to make sure it meets minimum wall thickness, etc for whatever classes you are trying to run in.

They are in Spring City, Pa....They made my rollcage and did an excellent job. It was also made of chrome-molly for only $385.00!!

Roll cage in that you have a full 6-point roll cage that goes all the way to the A-pillars with door bars, etc.?

You have one of these made from chrom-moly?

Careful with that deal Ernie has, those cages are NHRA legal, but way too big for SCCA use (.134 wall 1.75" tubing?, when you're required to have 1.50" x .120.. weighs quite a bit less), plus the cage design isn't SCCA legal (no main hoop diagonal, those little legs on the main hoop aren't legal either (adds points to the cage)

Maybe they can make a legal bar for you, but those aren't (based on what I see on the webpage)

Paul is correct. The cages S & W sells are NHRA legal and would also be legal for your purpose, but they may be overkill and the ones from Kirk Racing are made specific for scca, but they are more expensive.

check with the local racers for a fabricator. then get the rulebook for the sanctioning body you intend to race with(most are very specific and don't cross over very well). then work with the fabricator to fit the cage to the driver. make sure seat mounts, belt mounts, and window net mounts are done. bolt in cages will work and are less expensive, but the custom welded cage will be lighter and give you more room. plus the fabricator can add all the extra mounts you will need on your race car. an SCCA legal IT 8 point cage with all the other work should cost about $1200 installed. this is alot more than the bolt in cage but if you can see them and compare them you will see the advantages. some fabricators will let you buy the material which can save a couple hundred bucks. the welded cage will also help stiffen the chassis and is safer in an accident. bolt in cages offer the very minimum in roll over protection.

ernie, can you post some pics of your cage? did you replace the one you sold with the same one from sw?

I just called them and they wanted $1800 for a 6pt with swing outs. I spoke to Scott. I mentioned Ernie's car to 2 guys that worked there and they had no clue who I meant or any 3rd gen Rx7. I was shocked with the price. I then asked for a 4pt and I could have the swing outs done in nyc but they advised they do not do a 4pt.

Ernie, did you get the cage installed by them or just bought the cage there?

I only bought the cage there. If you call, ask to speak to Stokes. He's the salesman that helped me. Tell him Im from Abingdon, Md and he can pull it up that way. They are expensive to weld it in, but my uncle has his own welding business so thats not an issue for me. I actually sold the cage and havn't bought another one yet, but plan to do so soon. The one I bought was an 8pt. chrome molly cage.

I took my car there and they measured it all out. They keep the measurements on file so you wouldn't need to go there now.

ernie has the guy who bought your cage installed it yet?
it seems as though your cage was the first (and so far only) cage they built for an FD. i just want to make sure it has good fitment before i purchase from them.

can you ask the guy who bought it to post some pics of it?

I don't have his info anymore, but I will be getting the same cage next month so I'll be able to give more info then as to fitment.

Hey ernie did the cage effect seat travel at all? I know several cages dont allow the seats to go all the way back. Im a big guy and need all the room I can get. Also do you think they would mess with any aftermarket seats?
